In an aim to protect the endangered Mindoro Warty Pig species, a new conservation campus was created in the Philippines for long-term animal care and staff wellbeing. The campus includes staff accommodation, a dedicated disinfection and food storage facility, as well as six large pig enclosures. Continuing Eckersley O’Callaghan’s commitment to charitable work, our structures team designed the timber structure for the staff accommodation and disinfection facility as part of this pro bono initiative. Both buildings were designed in response to the climate, site conditions and construction in a remote area, whilst also ensuring durability and easy maintenance. Built by @caukinstudio alongside local workers and volunteers, the buildings were constructed using local, sustainable and easily accessible materials, with a significant proportion of the timber being reclaimed and donated by the local government. Last week, Nicola Sacco and Chiara Bariviera represented Eckersley O’Callaghan at FORMA’s Mass Timber Seminar, sharing their practical, experience-driven perspectives on designing and delivering timber at scale. Presenting on ‘Mass Timber in Practice – Structural Insights’, Nicola and Chiara explored the structural application of engineered timber, discussing key properties such as structural capacity, architectural qualities and sustainability. They also addressed some of the challenges associated with mass timber, including fire performance and moisture control. Using some of our projects to provide real-world examples, they referenced the Black & White Building, City of London Freemen’s School Swimming Pool and Vitsoe, to demonstrate the variety of possible applications and opportunities that timber offers. If you’d like to learn more about our timber expertise, please reach out via the website link in our bio.

Damian Rogan, Director of Facade Engineering, will be presenting at @footprintplus 2026. On May 13th, together with a panel of experts brought together by @saintgobainuk , Damian will present on ‘Scalable solutions to remake architectural glass’. Exploring a new, scalable pathway to recover end-of-life architectural glass and return it to new building products, the presentation will share insights on how we can achieve material circularity through industrial innovation and supply chain collaboration. Sarah Hoogenboom, Douraya Kessaria, Chiara Bariviera, James Pavely, Rocco Boselli and Haakon Lim will be joining Damian at the conference, be sure to say hello if you see them around!

On 7th May, Alessandro Baldini, Director, and Chiara Tosi, Associate, from our Milan office, will be at @zakwof in Rome. Marking the first ZAK conference to take place in Rome, the heritage buildings of the 'Eternal City' highlight the importance of adaptive reuse in maintaining historic architecture. Ale will open the event with his presentation ‘Designing the Building Skin: Facade Engineering Between Retrofit and Contemporary Architecture’. With building retrofit being a key theme across projects in Rome, he will explore how facade engineering supports reuse-led design, and how targeted envelope upgrades can deliver performance, value and design quality. If you're attending the conference, be sure to attend the session and say hello if you see Ale and Chiara around. Learn more about the session via the link in our bio.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp has been shortlisted for ‘International Bridge Project of the Year’ at the @new_civil_engineer Bridges Awards 2026. Filling a major gap in Sydney’s cycling path infrastructure, the cycle ramp creates a continuous north-south route across the Harbour Bridge with links from North Sydney through into the CBD via Kent Street. In an exclusive article with @dezeen , discover how our structural engineering and industrial design expertise helped realise this project alongside the wider project team. Meet... Andrea Hellerman, Associate Director Andrea joins Eckersley O’Callaghan to lead and strengthen our Forensic & Diagnostic Engineering service. With a background spanning architecture, facade engineering and building enclosure consulting across the US, UK and Europe, Andrea brings deep expertise in understanding how buildings perform once built. Her work focuses on bridging the gap between design intent and real‑world behaviour, using first‑principles thinking to investigate issues, prevent future problems and improve long‑term building performance. Read about our conversation with Andrea via the link in our bio.

Eckersley O’Callaghan’s collaboration with Apple spans across more than two decades. Our involvement in engineering over 300 Apple buildings has advanced the use of structural glass in architecture, transforming its application within the industry and advancing engineering methods in pursuit of a refined transparency. In @archrecordmag ’s April Issue, Founding Director James O'Callaghan is quoted, “Apple was interested in the material from an engineering perspective—where the boundaries were and what the possibilities were. So we started to research how to take a more ambitious approach with glass.” Discussing Apple’s Soho store, the article details how we were brought onto the project to help realise the glass stair and bridge following our key role in developing similar details at the Rakow Research Library in upstate New York. As Apple marks its 50th anniversary, Architectural Record’s article delves into the creation of some of the company’s signature stores. Read the article via the link in our bio.
