📣 Today, our Chair @sabacelebritypa and @stonewalluk CEO @simonablake , and conversion practices survivor, Glenn, delivered our Christmas wish straight to Number 10.   We’ve written to Prime Minister @keirstarmer urging him to deliver on his promise and to make 2026 the year the Government finally makes harmful conversion practices illegal.    This is now the eighth Christmas that #LGBTQ+ people will face since the UK Government first committed to banning conversion practices, and the eighth Christmas since successive Prime Ministers personally promised to end them.    We’re calling on the Government to publish the draft Bill before the end of this Parliamentary session, just as they promised. Prime Minister @keirstarmer has just reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to #BanConversionPractcies in his speech to the House of Commons. This comes after it was included in the King’s Speech earlier today. We’ve heard from four Prime Ministers that they will ban these harmful practices, and we hope this will be the one that delivers We’re calling on the Government to publish its draft Bill by summer recess, and the clock is ticking. The Government has once again committed to hashtag#BanConversionPractices in the King’s Speech. While this is welcome, this is now the fourth time a King’s Speech has included the commitment, the second under this government. We need an end to the empty promises. It’s time for decisive action. 🌎 Today’s @ilgaeurope Rainbow Map places the UK at number 22 in Europe for #LGBTQ+ rights.   We’ve dropped 2% since last year, and there was once a time when we were number 1.    One of ILGA-Europe’s key recommendations for improving LGBTQ+ rights in the UK is clear: ban conversion practices. Despite repeated promises, this has been delayed again and again.   This ranking should be a wake-up call. We’re disappointed that the Government has failed to meet its timeline to publish a draft Bill before the end of the parliamentary session, but we’re not backing down. Facebook memories just told me and @yermatty were sat outside in the cold talking about the Bill to ban conversion practices that was already overdue six years ago. Six years later it is even more overdue and as part of the @banconversionpractices coalition @stonewalluk remains determined to ensure a fully inclusive ban for the whole LGBTQ+ community. Along with the @banconversionpractices Coalition, we are deeply disappointed that this legislation has been delayed once again. Conversion practices continue to cause profound harm to LGBTQ+ community. There is no place for this abuse in the UK. But the campaign continues – we will not let the Government drop this vital legislation.
