Residents regularly raise concerns with me that a number of communities across Reading West and Mid Berkshire Constituency are not well served by bus. That’s why I was delighted last December that the government announced new bus funding, including over £5.5m for West Berkshire Council. I want to make sure that a fair share of this money is spent on delivering improvements for residents in Reading West and Mid Berkshire. So I’ve asked for a meeting with the Executive Portfolio Holder for Transport on West Berkshire Council to call for better services for residents in our villages, and between Tilehurst, Pangbourne, Theale and Calcot.

Earlier today, along with local councillor Chris Read, I met with residents in Woolhampton to hear about the ongoing issues with Thames Water tankering sewage through the village, which has resulted in damage to the road, the canal bridge, and residents’ properties. It is extremely disappointing that despite Thames Water saying that they have made improvements to the sewage works, tankering is still ongoing. I am writing to Thames Water calling on them to set a timetable for ending the tankering of sewage from Woolhampton and to ensure that residents are properly kept informed of progress.

I was delighted to be able to visit TK Travel in Beenham earlier today, to hear about the business and to see one of their new luxury coaches. They are a great local company who do lots of work supporting schools across Reading West and Mid Berkshire, as well as travel for corporate events, sports teams, and day trips!

“Stronger penalties against hate crime perpetrators is just one way we are going faster and further to make the UK a safer place for LGBTQIA+ people – because all people deserve to live freely and without fear, shame or discrimination” The Minister for LGBT+ Equality, @obaileymp , writes about the importance of making hate crime against LGBTQIA+ people an aggravated offence 🌈 Click the link in our bio to read more now.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, I'm thinking about how vital mental health support is for children’s life chances, making sure they get the very most of school. That's why this Labour government is rolling out Mental Health Support Teams across the country, so every child can access mental health support in school by the end of the parliament.

You may have seen reports of three cases of meningitis in Reading. Sadly one person has died and my thoughts are with their family and loved ones. My office is in contact with the Public Health team at Reading Borough Council and they have confirmed that the risk to the wider community is low. The bacteria do not spread very easily and can only be passed to others after a long period of close contact. Although meningitis is uncommon, it is important that parents and young people are aware and alert to the signs and symptoms of meningitis. If you or someone in your family is feeling unwell, please call NHS 111 for advice. Signs and symptoms of meningitis can include: • a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed with a glass • sudden onset of high fever • severe and worsening headache • stiff neck • vomiting and diarrhoea • joint and muscle pain • dislike of bright lights • very cold hands and feet • seizures • confusion/delirium • extreme sleepiness/difficulty waking Meningitis can progress rapidly, so if you or someone in your family is showing any of these symptoms, seek urgent medical help. Further information can be found from the NHS and other organisations at the links in the comments. /conditions/meningitis/

The UK now has the fastest growing economy in the G7. Our economic plan to raise investment and cut the deficit is working. 📈 The choices we have made mean our economy is in a stronger position, as we deal with the costs of conflict abroad. That benefits families here in Reading West and Mid Berkshire.

Residents in Stanford Dingley are having to deal with sewage emerging from manhole covers, flowing down the street and into their gardens. Despite this, Thames Water have no plans to do anything about it! I am absolutely appalled by Thames Water's inaction, and have written to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to request a meeting on this and the company's other failures in Reading West and Mid Berkshire. Read more in my letter to local residents ☝

Thames Water are failing Reading West and Mid Berkshire. I have written to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to raise the unacceptable situation in Stanford Dingley and Woolhampton and ask for a meeting to discuss how we can work together with local residents to hold Thames Water to account.

This #ChildmindingWeek26, I’m celebrating the incredible work childminders do to give children the best start in life. From care and reassurance to learning and school readiness, childminders across the country like Sam Goldsworthy, @corampacey ’s Childminder of the Year, provide brilliant support to children and families every day. Childminders are a vital part of our childcare system, supporting parents and helping children thrive. #magicofchildminding @educationgovuk
