Germany persecutes - We step in Amid the German state’s ongoing repression of Palestine solidarity, a Palestinian family of six — including four little kids — is currently at risk of homelessness in Berlin after surviving the genocide in Gaza, tremendous loss, and forced displacement. The family has been completely cut off from state social and financial support and is struggling simply to survive. At the same time, Germany’s inhuman racist system is systematically threatening refugees from Gaza with deportation to Greece. This is why #CommunityMutualAid is urgently needed as rent deadlines approach. Beyond rent, we also need to cover the family’s basic human needs in the coming months. We do not understand #CommunityMutualAid as charity. We understand it as solidarity, collective care, and resistance against deeply racist systems that decide whose lives are considered worthy of protection. When states fail and violence becomes policy, our responsibility to each other becomes even more important. Solidarity is our strength and our weapon. Nowruz marks the arrival of spring , a time for renewal, a fresh start, and for bringing people together. Yet, borders, war, and oppression continue to tear us apart, time and time again. This Nowruz, we gather not to celebrate as we traditionally do, but to hold space for each other and find strength in facing these difficult times together. As an act of resistance, we come together once more, not just for ourselves, but for a friend trapped behind borders and for those enduring inside Iran. These interconnected participatory workshops were meant to slowly build on each other to establish trust, and to explore what strengthens our existence in the city through bodily experience, art, and community-driven knowledge. The third and largest issue was created in the midst of 2020, centered on the theme of “future“. It’s crazy to look back at this issue now, realizing it was produced during a period of accelerated collective consciousness around futures in the Western hemisphere. This issue is a vivid collision and oscillation of past, present and future projecting dreams, hopes, angst, memory, love, bravery and radical (re)imagining on how to move through chaos. Between towering violence and layers of vision, failure, love, grief, transformation and grace the contributors created a collective piece attesting to a future where we won’t be surrendering to a death cult that is the delusional existence within the state and its oppressive systems. But a future where we stand in resistance as we form alliances that are built on relational ways of mutual survival - affirming life. Last pic drop from our first workshop using participatory cartography led by the powerhouses @jet.asti and @atibelll_ “SKANDER PLATZ, BACHESH” in Berlin. We went o. excursions and created maps that rethink the classical roots of how we understand mapping. We used mapping as a tool to connect and share information outside of border logic and inside perspectives shaped by experiences, feelings, relationships, and ideas about a place - specifically Alexanderplatz - a central space for gathering for many young Afghan adults. Thank you to Zolfar and Ati for showing us what it means to creatively rethink action and the political in liberatory terms and showing us what it means to unlearn, recalibrate and then mediate that knowledge with empathy <3 I wish I had a good and clear pic of you two, but I don’t, forgive me.
