Under hand sneak walk recalibrating locomotion after a long run feels about right. Legs feeling a little wobbly but it’s also a nice way to ensure that I’m not going to stiffen up too much later today. #ropeflow #ropeflowcommunity #strava #halfmarathon #running

#TheGreatFullPodcast @HandballNinja Meets @TheDavidWeck I’m big on the law of reciprocity and giving as I’ve received. On the back of concluding my multi-sport Team USA and international athletic career I have shared tools I utilized as well as insights from those who educated or inspired me during my career under the theme of being ā€œGreatFullā€. One of the cooler concepts that came up in my convo with @TheDavidWeck was the Relative Age Effect that states if a kid is biologically older than their peers around the same age they will experience a performance advantage by virtue of being more mature, relatively speaking, and that compounded throughout a childhood can lead to greater success. The reframe for those on the other side of the Relative Age Effect is the ā€œhidden benefitā€ where being smaller or younger forces athletes to develop superior physical intelligence, coordination, and biomechanical efficiency when they cannot rely on raw size or strength to succeed. This is why some parents will have their kin compete against kids grade(s) above their own. In my own case as an American where the school grading system is linked to many athletics, which is not the case around the world, I rarely competed against kids my own age but those 1+ years older than me since I was 6 years old and the ā€œmeeknessā€ of my situation was a catalyst for the cerebral, cognition-first approach I had to sport in my teens as illustrated in these videos recorded by my childhood friend @snubbyj . Our full convo dives into our respective athletic journeys as well as our journey together connecting on this side of the pandemic and working together as I lived out my dreams at the Paris 2024 Olympics and competed in my sixth continent in club competition at last October’s #IHFClubWCH. Additionally I share with David an exercise that he subsequently trials on one of the @weckmethod gym goers at the end. The full two hour convo can be watched on the @handballninja YouTube channel (PG-13 for mild suggestive language). #HandballNinjaMeetsDavidWeck

UNCONVENTIONAL PUSH UPS! Do you really prefer doing the same push ups over and over, or stimulating your body with variations that better adapt to your biomechanics? Unboxing of my new Infinity Braid Rope by @weckmethod I’ve been wanting this since I had the chance to try it back in January. The perfect blend of speed, agility and weight without the bulky handle. Big thanks to @slushropes for helping me get one. (You can get one too on her website) ā€œDIG10ā€ at checkout for a discount! I’m really looking forward to digging in with this rope and having some fun! #weckmethod #rope #ropeflow #workout #fyp

Basketball was my first love, my introduction into sport, and the primary reference point from which I delved into other sports including handball. I spent my late teens and early twenties working in sports modeling and featuring in campaigns for Nike, Powerade, Jordan Brand, amongst others and even won the 2012 @HarlemGlobetrotters talent search. I ended up competing internationally in other sports, but there’s no @HandballNinja without hoops and I am glad my convo with @TheDavidWeck allowed me to reminisce on some of my journey with basketball as we both concur that the global accessibility basketball offers makes it a great game. #BallIsLife Our full convo dives into our respective athletic journeys as well as our journey together connecting on this side of the pandemic and working together as I lived out my dreams at the Paris 2024 Olympics and competed in my sixth continent in club competition at last October’s #IHFClubWCH. On the back of concluding my multi-sport Team USA and international athletic career I have shared tools I utilized as well as insights from those who educated or inspired me during my career under the theme of being ā€œGreatFullā€. Rope Flow, a methodology that @thedavidweck has catalyzed into a global following, takes the emphasis of jumping out of rolling the ropes to emphasis the upper body’s rotational mechanics. A long time jump roper I utilized the abundance of solitary time the pandemic provided in 2020 to do a deep dive into @rmtropeflow . What I was surprised to hear was the incredible story of @GiftWHubbard regaining standing mobility after being immobilized to a wheelchair with the aid of rope flow. Shout out to @HumanTimothy of @WayOfTheRope , @Alpaca.Flow , @ErikMickelberg , @ErodingWeakness , @Yuri_Marmerstein , @RokasMove , @KenFullyArmed , and Rope Flows great global connector @Rannyarri šŸ«¶šŸæ Our full convo dives into our respective athletic journeys as well as our journey together connecting on this side of the pandemic and working together as I lived out my dreams at the Paris 2024 Olympics and competed in my sixth continent in club competition at last October’s #IHFClubWCH. On the back of concluding my multi-sport Team USA and international athletic career I have shared tools I utilized as well as insights from those who educated or inspired me during my career under the theme of being ā€œGreatFullā€. I had the pleasure of having a two hour chat with my trainer and friend @thedavidweck at @weckmethod lab in San Diego, California. Dave invented the @bosu_fitness ball around the turn of the millennium which not only made him a staple fixture in sports and fitness circles globally, but offered him the space to explore movement, balance, and locomotion to an extent few human beings have. Having worked with dozens of coaches, trainers, and athletic specialists in my own athletic career I can say David’s consecration as it pertains to sport is in the 99th percentile, and his ethos in making #EveryStepStronger for all humans qualifies him as a gift to humanity in my humble opinion šŸ˜‡ We initially got connect through @Instagram after my former @beachhandballdreamteam mate @scootnicho turned me onto @itsmevirg and @revolutionthrowing early 2020 and a subsequent comment from @followthrubat tagging @thedavidweck on a post of mine from @copabalonmanoplayavolcan where I was MVP. šŸŒ€Make your Spine MovešŸŒ€ Contralateral reciprocation and rotational movement are essential components of any efficient athletic motor task. Stiffness in your spine—whether voluntary or a result of reduced natural range of motion due to adaptation, injury, or disease—will decrease the strength, power and elastic force that can transfer through your kinetic chains, from your limbs to your spine and vice versa. Limiting your training ONLY to what is commonly understood as ā€œbasic strength trainingā€ (e.g., squats, presses, and deadlifts) and relying solely on ā€œprogressive overloadā€ as the ultimate path to fitness overlooks one equally important training principle: variability. Additionally, the most basic and characteristic human movement pattern is bipedalism. From there, we develop more complex and efficient locomotive-based patterns, such as running, throwing, carrying, catching, wrestling/fighting, etc. These are movement patterns that stem from the fundamental gait cycle. To feel strong, healthy, and athletic, you need both Unconventional Strength & Conditioning and Skill Practice following a holistic approach to Human Movement. Sustainable aesthetics will come eventually with time… Don’t worry, and don’t sacrifice your health for short-term body image goals. ——- #everystepstronger ——- #evolutionaryhumanmovement #reconnectiontraining #naturaltraining #primalstrength primalmovement kairos unconventionaltraining ropeflow weckmethod fitness fitnessjourney fitnessmotivation fitnesslifestyle wellness movement movementculture functionaltraining crossfit strength power barefoot auckland newzealand martialarts rmt rmtraining
