Following the knockout success of her Pantene and E.ON campaigns, our latest d7 quarterly newsletter turned the spotlight on director Nim Kyong Ran, celebrating the craft, nuance, and vision she brings to every frame. Born and raised in Stockholm, Nim Kyong Ran’s journalist mother instilled in her a lifelong love of storytelling. She explored various art forms early on, including six years of acting school, but discovered her true calling as a director, where everything clicked. Directing let her blend all her interests without compromise. A true autodidact, she taught herself filmmaking by biking through the Japanese countryside with only her camera, writing, shooting, and editing short films while honing her visual style and aesthetic. She obsessively studied classic films, sharpening her grasp of character, pacing, and framing. She now commands every element that makes a film succeed in all her work. @nimkyongran
