Stimmen aus der Vergangenheit hallen irgendwie durch die kargen Tore.
Ist dies das ultimative Gesamtkunstwerk?
Über Jahrhunderte hinweg ist dieser Stein eine kollektive Wiederbelebung des Bewusstseins; die Ideen von Handwerkern und Handwerkerinnen, von Grund auf, bis zum höchsten Punkt. Die Wandteppiche sind zusammengenäht; über das Handwerk wird in gedämpften Tönen gesprochen, aber es wird nur als minderwertig angesehen; als typisch weiblich. In diesem sakralen Raum könnten wir das spirituelle Äquivalent eines Kunstkollektivs ausgraben, einen Mikrokosmos davon. Wenn ich durch dieses Kirchenschiff gehe, könnte ich sogar glauben, dass die jahrhundertelange Arbeit der Kunsthandwerker ein Ganzes hervorgebracht hat, das weitaus größer ist als die Summe seiner Einzelteile.
Jeder der Künstlerinnen in diesem Kunstkollektiv, Lalas, singt nach ihrer eigenen Melodie. Jede hat ihr eigenes Tempo.Dennoch, wenn sie einmal ausgegraben sind, schaffen sie alle zusammen eine andere, manchmal kollidierende Reihe von Rhythmen und Ideen.
Es ist der Ruf bewusstseinsbildender feministischer Kunstkollektive durch die Zeit, der die Stärke der Gruppe über das Individuum hinaus betont. So viele Stimmen haben die Kathedrale geschaffen, unzählige Hände. Konzepte des Scheiterns und des Erfolgs sind nicht beabsichtigt, sondern entstehen als zu-fällige Harmonien/Disharmonien in einem kollektiven Umfeld. Instinkt ist wichtig, denn er signalisiert Zusammenarbeit und die Weigerung, an frauen-feindliche Überlegenheitsprinzipien zu glauben. Stattdessen wird die Zerbrechlichkeit heilig. Als Gruppe, als Ausstellung, sind wir stärker und verletzlicher und schaffen etwas, das jeden einzelnen von uns übertrifft. Eine Kathedrale der Ideen, des Zeichnens, des geformten Tons und der Farbe.

Voices from the past somehow echo through the barren gates. Is this the ultimate Gesamtkunstwerk?
Through centuries, this stone is a collective revival of consciousness; the ideas of craftsmen and craftswomen, from ground up, to the highest point. The tapestries are stitched together; craft being spoken of in hushed tones, but only thought of as inferior; as typically feminine.
Buried in this sacred space, we might unearth the spiritual equivalent of an art collective; a microcosm of it. Walking through this nave, I may even be fooled in to thinking that the toil of craftspeople over centuries has enacted a totality that is far greater than the sum of its individual parts.
Each of the artists in this art collective, Lalas, sings to their own tune. Each has her own tempo. Nevertheless, once unearthed, all of them, cumulatively, create another, sometimes colliding set of rhythms and
ideas.
It is the call of consciousness-raising feminist art collectives, through time, that emphasizes the strength of the group above and beyond the individual. So many voices have made the cathedral; innumerable hands. Concepts of failure and success are not premeditated, but occur as accidental harmonies/disharmonies within a collective setting.
Instinct is important, as it signals cooperation and a refusal to believe in misplaced principles of superiority. Instead, fragility becomes sacred.
As a group, as an exhibition, we are stronger and more vulnerable, and are creating something that surpasses each one of us. A cathedral of ideas, of mark-making, of moulded clay and of paint.

‘ I am interested in interrogating the history, particularly, of Expressionist painting and
of the gesture. The canvas is moved around, laid on the floor, often remade or scored over, obliterated; then painted over again. Paintings are buried beneath other paintings. There is
a narrative being referenced, but it is often hidden and autobiographical. The making is instinctive and accident driven, often teetering on the edge of what I believe is abject failure. This tightrope is important. The painting has its own life; leads the way. I view this as a process of alchemy; a transformative process.’
