This morning’s dream painting… three sequences translated into one image. Left with the message ‘black medicine’, a coffee shop in Edinburgh and brushing my teeth after waking in the garden I spied the new black cat one of our neighbours has which somehow seemed relevant so snuck them in the picture too.
Having a good cull of works on paper from the last 5 years or so.. here’s a few which survived with a bit of editing. There’s something satisfying about tearing up pictures and saving bits and pieces for future collage-ing. Getting some oil paints delivered in next few days so I can get back to that, not to make new paintings but again to rework, remix existing work that just doesn’t hold up after a few years which is a sign I’m getting better at this. Since the other week when I said I was going to look more towards the unconscious to generate work I haven’t remembered any dreams though this morning there was a thought of a lightbulb illuminating the entrance to the small space I call a studio, which I guess means just go there and let things happen, be there and things will happen.
Another oil on panel piece from 2024. I'd forgotten about these... just when I lose faith in painting another part ofmyself pulls something out of the hat. Keep going... keep going .....
