One of our members put it this way: “I was told our pay is lower because we offer ‘prestige.’ But years of compression tell me my job isn’t prestigious — just necessary.”
Another said: “After 25 years at this university, it’s still a struggle to provide for my family.”

Workers make UW run. We power the research, teaching, and community service that the university brags about. UW and its libraries are ranked top 10 in the nation… yet our compensation ranks in the bottom 10 among peer institutions and regional libraries.
And all this as Seattle/Tacoma’s cost of living is among the highest in the country. 📈

🍀 Feeling lucky? We sure are—to have each other! Today, UW Libraries & Press workers joined together for a unity break to celebrate our union. ☘️
But let’s be real: We can’t live on luck alone. While the University is sitting on a pot of gold (Just their DISCRETIONARY reserve budgets grew by $1 BILLION during bargaining!), we’re still waiting for our fair share.
We’re searching for a raise, not an illusive rainbow. 🌈Our contract expired on 1/31 and UW management is hoarding the gold while:
❌ Offering lowball “raises” as inflation soars
❌ Forcing staff to move far from campus or work multiple jobs
❌ Stalling on protections for DEI and fair layoff policies
When library workers can’t make ends meet, students and research suffer. 📚
☘️ We want our “pot of gold”—and by that, we mean a just wage, real equity, and strong protections in our contract. Not a wish, but a guarantee.
📢 Calling on UW: Stop hoarding the treasure and come to the table! We want our fair share.
