In the last 2 weeks, 5 community members have been taken by ICE in White Center, a neighborhood near our South Seattle campus. White Center Community Defense is hosting a fundraiser to support the families impacted by these abductions, and we invite our wider community to show up in support on April 24th, at Mr. B’s Mead Center at 6pm
Beautiful Saturday fighting with Parent Educators. Thank you Parent Ed faculty, Parent Ed families, Mayor Wilson, Sen. Saldaña, and Rep. Pollet, for fighting with us! See you all Thursday morming bright and early at South Seattle College to call on SBCTC to reverse their allocation changes that would gut our programs and preschool co-ops!

Budget cuts don't work.
During the Great Recession, states that cut their public workforce took longer to recover and experienced deeper job loss in both the public and private sectors.
The proposed cuts to higher education are an especially bad idea in Washington state, where our highly educated workforce and world‑class research institutions have been a driver of economic growth.

#### We, the undersigned, urge you to halt the closure of the 13 parent education programs across the Community and Technical College system, serving about 4,500 families. For more than 80 years, these programs and their cooperative preschools have been thriving early childhood education models and a defining example of community vocational education in this state.
As parents, faculty, and community members impacted by the changes to the funding allocation model that will close these programs, we know that there is no strong workforce without parents and caregivers doing the essential work of raising and supporting children. The stability, health, and preparedness of the workforce depend fundamentally on safe, supported children and families. These programs are not peripheral to workforce development—they are foundational to it.
We urge the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and the Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges to include parent education faculty and members in the conversation about these programs, and to work together to find the time and solutions that will allow these programs to thrive. Parent education programs fill a valuable role in our communities, and losing them would be devastating to Washington now and in the future.
AFT1789 turned out in red AND blue to say ICE OUT! AFT Seattle is proud to stand with thousands of educators and community members as we rallied and marched to the Federal Building last Saturday with our demands. Thanks to @seattleeducatorsagainstice for a very powerful day!!
