Delhi Synth Hang

Synth Hang #15, hosted by @kaldi_moss at their studio, was all about spatiality and grooves. Moss set up a quad system (4 channels/speakers) in their studio, turning the jams into a surround experience, with the sound from all our instruments whizzing around the room. A detailed presentation on sound spatialisation by Moss was followed by a couple of groovy jams (with a side of samsosas, jalebis, and gin). A few glimpses from Synth hang #14 in March hosted by @uncannystations . Opening with a track from Elia Buletti/ Delmore FX’s album Cry Before Buy, then moving into @beatnyk ’s FOSS-based sonic map of the city and Laxita’s fascinating tactile controller explorations. Surge, Live at @oddbirdtheatre 28th June 2025 What if concerts didn’t always have the same upward graph? What if there was no headliner and we all flowed into each other’s sets? At Surge, four acts appeared and reappeared - with modular pulses and ambient textures melting into field recordings, drums collapsing into drones and moments of full-blown sonic chaos. The best part of building this little community has been discovering new sounds and music - could’ve never imagined there are so many of us out there! As of today, we’re starting to archive some of this music on Bandcamp. I wouldn’t call ourselves a label yet — but maybe one day, with enough support? @sirfpaudhon.sepyaar and I have been thinking a lot about the time between the first take and releasing a record. Sometimes you just want to put something out — between albums, moods, jams - before the overthinking sets in and the energy fades. We’d love to be a space for you to put out some of those sounds. The ones that somehow work but don’t really fit in elsewhere. We recently released Shiv’s project @songsforatiredcity collaboration album “Feeling So Good” with @digginginindia as part of Batch #7, which also included Ampelos Trio. We have a limited amount of those left!

Here are some photos from Playdate#3. One of highlights for me this year has been watching @synth.hang really come into its own. We’ve been trying so hard to make these little DIY events turn a profit so we can keep doing more and bring more people into the fold. Artist run events hit different. We want to do more shows and pay artists better, we want to experiment and create immersive installations, we want to start a label, we want to build a festival, we want to make things way more accessible and create collaborative work with musicians and producers outside of the experimental music scene…There’s a kind of urgent creative energy I haven’t felt since I used to play in bands really. This Sunday I was so focussed on the numbers and trying to fill up the room and sell merch and manage the open mic that I forgot to take a moment to look around. Three out of five artists played their first ever sets and 30 people showed up to watch them. We mic’d up a pool table to create a fun installation (without a 2 page artist statement) and also had had a homegrown builder @granola_synths show their new modules. There were lots of people learning from each other - finding ways to collaborate and dig deeper. I hope we can keep doing this in 2026. —- On another note, why is everyone so focused on Anuv and Jacob and Jasleen and whoever else is playing these massive shows? come out and check out what else is going on. Delhi’s really having a DIY gig moment - ofc theres @reproduceartists but there’s also @altbaithak @_exibit.xyz @sixdegreessupperclub @wip_labs and a couple of more I can’t find the handles for. Come support these events and venues like @moolisamoolword that open their space up to artists and are more interested in what they want to do rather than the gate split. These shows don’t cost a bomb and you might discover an artist your algorithm will likely never show you.

the city i’ve chosen to live in, for one reason or another feels decrepit and suffocating. even outside of that, meeting points for creative folk are too few and burdened by capitalist survival instinct. so here we are, putting together yet another completely self funded and organised event for @synth.hang at @moolisamoolword tomorrow. i want to believe that what we’re doing is important. that hosting a little event in a little basement in delhi, filled with funny-looking sound machines, somehow makes sense. besides, i find being a part of synth hang a good excuse to be around likeminded folks, and meet really talented artists like @sidhartha.sn  – a legendary print maker who helped us print our first run of merchandise, designed by the incredible @goodbadcomics and @anandpagalkutta . it’ll all be at the merch booth tomorrow! a few of us have been meeting in various homes for over a year and a half. now that we’re in your neighbourhood, we want to keep doing this. so come thru, bring a little curiosity, and maybe you’ll find a little beep or boop to make in your own home after it. all photos by the absolutely insane @shivahuja
