Finally sharing the Season 21 Collection boxset trailer prop I built: an upgraded classic sonic screwdriver for Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor, alongside Janet Fielding as Tegan.
Commissioned by writer/director @petemctighe for Destination: Daleks.
This post walks through the full process of my part in the project, with a bit of what my talented colleagues @sonicboltprops & @multiverseprops contributed too, from idea to finished prop.
@hammerthegladiator ’s Hammer! 🔨 💪🏻🔥
This was a collaborative project with the team at @littleshopprops , which was commissioned by @hungrybearmedia for use in Series 2 of @bbcgladiators
This was a challenging build, which I suppose is fitting given its Gladiatorial use, but we managed to get it done and handed over ready for its debut at Sheffield Arena.
Once the final design concepts we sent over were approved by production, @sonicboltprops designed the CAD model for the prop.
The physical build was a team effort between myself and @joshmartinprops with laser cut elements from @sybernettik

One year ago today, Tales of the TARDIS debuted as part of the 60th Anniversary Celebrations on BBC IPlayer!
@rubbertoeprops was asked to make a Third Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver for The Three Doctor’s episode, starring the talented @manningofficial & @dannyants reprising their roles as Jo Jones & Clyde Langer. This happened whilst we were there working freelance on the officially licensed 9th/10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver replicas.
Naturally as we were in the room, we offered him our assistance on the build and he kindly let us help out. The plan was to convert a Rubbertoe Replicas 4th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver into the earlier version of the same prop to look as it did when it was used by Jon Pertwee.
However as we searched through the remaining parts left over from that particular run, we could only find an undrilled sliding section, a few halo rings, a bullet emitter and, in a strange twist of fate, the prototype handle section I had made back in 2016 during the developmental stages of the design process for the 4th Replicas.
Nicholas and myself set about making the missing components and making the existing ones fit together. Once the prop was fully assembled @joshmartinprops painted the halo and black details with the help of @sybernettik . Meanwhile @sonicboltprops and I assisted Nicholas in getting the red, yellow, black and white tape detailing on the prop right.
We also printed off little pieces to slot into the gap between the bottom of the prototype handle and end cap to match the newer information we have about the original prop. After that the prop was sent off to set and the rest is history!
It was an absolute honour and privilege to get to make this prop for Tales of the TARDIS, we all had a blast working on it and getting to make a sonic with Nick was particularly special. Big thanks to Rubbertoe for giving us the opportunity!

A look at the modifications made to the original Shawcraft Models built Dalek prop dubbed “One-7” for Destination: Daleks (2025), when I was lucky enough to have the chance to operate it.
Originally built in 1963, it’s been modified and reused across decades, but it’s had an amazing life, so I was keen to include a brief history of the prop in the post.
Info sourced from Dalek 6388, The Prop Gallery, The Model Unit and Chris Balcombe.
“Ah, not bad for a man in his jim-jams. Very Arthur Dent!”🎄✨
Merry Christmas, everyone. As a little present for those who’ll be interested, here are the brands for the costume elements worn by David Tennant in The Christmas Invasion (and subsequently in Smith and Jones).
I recently had the privilege of dressing a mannequin with the original filming costume for the Whoniverse Show and took the opportunity to check the labels. So here they are, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Christmas Invasion.
I got to operate a Dalek!! 🤯
And not just any Dalek, the legendary Dalek One/Seven, an original prop primarily built in the 1960s. Plus I got to add a couple of new parts to it myself (with a bit of help from @littlelongleat & Andy H!)
I won’t go into too much detail here, as there are more in-depth accounts of the experience still to come, but it was awesome!
As you can imagine, having built a Dalek myself 13 years ago back at school, this was incredibly special. All that practice finally paid off!
Huge shoutouts to my fellow Kaled Mutants, @markyjmoves and @johnpkelly78 🖤
And massive thanks to @petemctighe , @sonicscrewdriverarchive , @themoviereliquary , and @thechrisbalcombe for helping make this happen!
“The Soldiers have been killed… by what?”
“Do you really need to ask?…”
“EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!” ☠️💥🔥
My friend @isaacblake_filmmaking has created this amazing art work for “Destination: Daleks” by @petemctighe
It’s been made using some of the photos Myself, @littlelongleat & @johnpkelly78 took on the day, plus some from @blackarchivegallery of Peter and Janet from Power of the Doctor.
I simply had to share it!
Also sharing the other Season 21 Collection boxset trailer prop I worked on: the Trion Data Beacon found by the Fifth Doctor and Tegan.
Commissioned by writer/director @petemctighe for Destination: Daleks.
I contributed the initial concept ideas for the design. The CAD model developed by @sonicboltprops ,The physical build was completed by @multiverseprops , with digital weathering by @sybernettik and graphics by @jemhpward
This post walks through how the Beacon evolved from concept ideas into the finished on-screen prop. Check out @multiverseprops post to see how the build was done!

Handy Jar Desk Organiser! ✋🏻🫙
This is an idea I’ve had for years and just hadn’t managed to get around to bringing it to life.
But I finally found a spare moment to prototype it, and I’m very pleased with the results, it makes for a lovely little pen pot on the workbench with a bit of a fun twist.
Shout out to my partner in crime @sonicboltprops for modelling this!
Merry Christmas everyone! 🎅🏻🎄
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the Giant Maggot puppet I created for The @gallifreycabaret “Christmas Special” Special last week! 🐛✨
Commissioned for the legendary @manningofficial to use on stage, this puppet was based on the iconic maggots from The Green Death and was used as a stand-in for baby Ruby in a parody of the “Ruby’s Mum” arc from Doctor Who Series One.
Built with a tight turnaround and limited budget, the focus was on creating a fun, stage-ready prop that stayed true to the onscreen originals. While the finishing work reflects these constraints, I’m thrilled with how it turned out.
Huge thanks to @reece_connolly_ and @0hmyst4rs for getting me involved. Seeing it on stage with Katy and Reece was an absolute joy!

In early 2023 myself and the rest of the @littleshopprops team worked together on behalf of the @sonicscrewdriverarchive to supply 11 archival replicas to the @stlsciencecenter for their Doctor Who Exhibit.
The replicas were needed to fill the gaps in between the other props in the display, that were all screen used examples (With the exception of the Dark Eyes).
This is the largest collection of original sonic screwdriver (and sonic adjacent) filming props ever displayed together and includes the 1996 TV Movie hero prop.
Alongside the props on display is also a collection of original production artwork, concepts and technical drawings. Plus the David Bradley/Jo Martin TARDIS, which had come straight from its stint in Doctor Who: Time Fracture.
I also helped in the research of this display and provided write ups to the Science Center’s website.
