The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen… Presenting my take on Daredevil’s cowl from Daredevil Born Again season 2. Having been a fan of this character since the Netflix show, making a cowl had always been on my bucket list of builds, so it feels good to finally put one together! This particular version is from the latest season of Daredevil Born Again, which sees the red suit painted black, to which as the season progresses, more of the black paint is stripped back and chipped away to reveal the red undercoat, which I think is a really cool idea and so is the version I chose to replicate here. Using resin 3D printed parts I’d picked up from Span3xclaDhero on Etsy, unfortunately I’m unaware as to the origin of the files they used, so if anyone recognises them I would love to know as to properly credit the artist who modelled them! Sanded, primed, filled, repeated until the finish was smooth and even. Painted with Molotow Belton spray cans, and weathered with Vallejo Game Wash, and Mr Weathering Color inks. Love me some paint chipping, plus the red and black is one of my favourite colour combos, so this was a really fun build! As always @ironhead_studio has done an incredible job on the original ones featured in the show. #daredevil #daredevilbornagain #marvel #prop #cowl

“So you broke the rules, big deal, that’s what kept you alive, that’s what makes you special, that’s what makes you a witch”. - Agatha Harkness Presenting Teen’s Spell Book from Agatha All Along. Using references I’d gathered from the show, as well as concept artwork from the official art of book, I enlisted the help of my friend @jemhpward to assist me in the replication of the graphics for the spell book cover, as well as a set of detailed pages for the book, two of which are pages seen in the show, and others were created inspired by witchcraft in the MCU. Jem did a masterful job at replicating all the details! Recently I had the opportunity to finally get the cover graphics etched into the leather, to which I thank @sybernettik and @sonicboltprops for helping me test out laser etching the leather and dialling the settings in to develop the cover, and I thank them for putting up with the burnt leather smell that filled the workshop! Now I had all the pieces I needed to construct the spell book, I started by prepping the leather, cutting out the shape of the cover, marking the fold lines, and test fitting the pages, followed by staining, burnishing, hand painting the moon phase details, and giving the book an oil wash to take back the shine of the silver paint on the moons, finishing with a coat of shoe polish to soften up the leather and add a slight shine to the surface. The pages were constructed using a notebook I found and modified, along with the printed graphical pages which I inserted throughout the book. I also added hidden magnets into the cover to allow for it to clasp shut. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to work on a personal project like this, I had so much fun working on it, and I’m extremely pleased with the results! #agathaallalong #billymaximoth #wiccan #spellbook #propmaker

“So be a good Dalek, and take us to Trion” - The Doctor The Trion Holographic Projector used by Peter Davison, and Janet Fielding in “Destination: Dalek”, by Pete McTighe. Earlier this year myself and a few other makers were brought on board to create some exciting new props to be used in the minisode/trailer for the Doctor Who Season 21 Collection Boxset. This piece is the macguffin of the episode, and so it was really important we got it right. Being a device carried from a battlefield on a distant planet, it had to look both damaged and battle worn, while still resembling the technology of Trion. We put a lot of time and effort into the design of this prop, carrying over many elements from existing Trion technology seen in the show, while also introducing new elements for this prop’s use in the episode. Designed by @suttons_workshop , and 3D modelled by @sonicboltprops , with some digital aging applied to the model by @sybernettik . The parts were printed, textured, painted, assembled, and weathered by myself. As well as giving the prop some additional texture, I also added a few exposed panels on the surface, showing the inner workings of the device, giving the piece even more depth and detail. The graphics for the Trion number pad were beautifully designed by @jemhpward , and cut out on my vinyl cutter, before application and weathering. The electronics were designed by @sybernettik , and installed by myself. Again this is just one of many props we produced for this project, and huge thanks to @petemctighe for bringing us along for the ride! Be sure to checkout @suttons_workshop ’s posts for a more in-depth look into the concept art and process behind the props. #doctorwho #peterdavison #destinationdaleks #daleks #trion #tegan #janetfielding #bbc #prop #propmaker #fifthdoctor

“New screwdriver?” - Tegan “It’s an upgrade” - The Doctor “Sure is, this one actually works” - Tegan The Fifth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver MK2 used by Peter Davison in “Destination: Dalek”, by Pete McTighe. Earlier this year myself and a few other makers were brought on board to create some exciting new props to be used in the minisode/trailer for the Doctor Who Season 21 Collection Boxset. One of the first pieces we were tasked in producing was the Doctor’s new Sonic Screwdriver. We had a lot of fun designing this one, taking inspiration from the original classic era sonics, combined with nods to the Fifth Doctor’s costume, and even elements of the TARDIS Tool Kit. My particular addition to this new design was in the emitter, we knew it had to light up, and so I had the idea to base the emitter off of vintage indicator lights, which are also reminiscent of the light domes used on the Daleks in the episode. We spent countless nights and long calls discussing the design of the sonic, which was modelled in CAD by @sonicboltprops , then machined from aluminium and brass by @suttons_workshop , other parts such as the emitter were made by myself from brass, stainless steel, and a resin dome printed by @sybernettik , which I then painted in a translucent red, and clear coated with a 2K lacquer. The electronics were done by Daniel, I also provided the red barbershop stripe, which was applied by @who.collector . Additionally I had advised James on which paints to use on the sonic itself. This is the first of many props we produced for this project, and it was an absolute joy! Big thanks to @petemctighe for bringing us all on board for this exciting project! Be sure to checkout @suttons_workshop ’s posts for a more in-depth look into the concept art and process behind the props. #doctorwho #peterdavison #destinationdaleks #daleks #sonicscrewdriver #tegan #janetfielding #bbc #prop #propmaker #fifthdoctor

“Hello Sweetie” - River Song Presenting River Song’s Sonic Screwdriver. This officially licensed prop replica has been produced by the brilliant team over at @rubbertoeprops in conjunction with @littleshopprops , and this particular one was commissioned to me for painting and weathering. In order to give this highly accurate replica the care and attention to detail in which it deserved, I began with chemically aging the metal parts, including brass, aluminium, and copper, further enhancing with paint treatments. Following on from that, I gave the body section a dark wash and some areas of weathering to show where dirt might have gathered overtime, this also helped highlight the beautiful crackle paint, which for this run were all painstakingly and masterfully produced by @joshmartinprops . Then came along the verdigris, which for this in particular I followed a combination of prop reference as well as my own interpretation, using a variety of paints and pigments to build up an authentically aged look. I had a lot of fun working on this one, and hope it’s not the last one to pass through my workshop. Lovely work by all the team @rubbertoeprops @littleshopprops . #doctorwho #riversong #sonicscrewdriver #prop #propreplica #rubbertoereplicas

“I see you have constructed a new lightsaber. Your skills are complete.” - Darth Vader Here’s my latest custom Lightsaber, this particular piece being designed for a Jedi Master. Taking some inspiration and using similar parts to my previously made Jedi Padawan Lightsaber. As I have done with my previous custom builds, I have constructed this prop through the use of multiple materials, including aluminium, brass, and steel. This hilt features found parts from various vintage cameras, a replica Obi-Wan grip section, a vintage desk lamp, and military radio cable connectors, as well some subtle brass accepts throughout. The hilt received a polish after final assembly, followed by some light weathering passes, and a subtle heat stain effect to the emitter. I really enjoy putting these builds together and challenging myself to make something just using parts I have collected over the years. #starwars #jedi #jedimaster #lightsaber #prop #propmaker #proppainter #customlightsaber #oneofakind #custombuild #theforce

“Jedi two checking in, read you loud and clear.” - Neel Presenting Wim and Neel’s Walkie Talkie Communicators from Skeleton Crew. I absolutely loved the first season of this show and hope we get to see more of these characters! Luckily I was able to pick up the only pair of accurate walkie talkies I could find online here in the UK! After studying reference shots of the props in the show and on display at Lucasfilm, I proceeded to take measurements and 3D model the added components to then be printed in resin. I sourced and modified some metal telescoping antennas to replace the original ones, as well as sourcing a roughly accurate cone shaped part for the top of the antennas, and machining a brass and aluminium spacer for it to attach to. Some light modifications were made to the walkie talkies, such as drilling holes for the LEDs, covering up and sanding down any text, and cutting out a section of the interior to later house the electronics. Meanwhile my friend @thain96 was well at work on the main graphics for the walkie talkies, using measurements I had provided, and he did an absolutely brilliant job at replicating them! Once the printed components were cured, cleaned, and primed, they were painted and weathered along with the rest of the walkie talkie parts. Electronics were then wired up and installed, with easy access through the original battery compartment on the back. #starwars #skeletoncrew #wim #neel #neelnation #walkietalkie #prop #propmaking #propmaker #proppainter

“When you’re ready to hear what the gods have in store for you, they’ll tell you.” – Chiron Presenting the Riptide sword from Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I actually built this back in March, but only just getting around to photographing it! This was a fun build! As a fan of the world of Percy Jackson, especially the new TV series, I had to make something from it, and what better than Percy’s sword Riptide. The files for this build were expertly replicated and produced by @cgs_props , and printed in a tough resin. For this build I had experimented with a few different paints, but in the end I mixed together my own custom gold paint to try and get the tone I wanted, followed by a multi-step weathering process, involving acrylics, inks, and oils. I love all the props designed by @deangoodine and team for the show, and hope this one does the original justice! #percyjackson #riptide #sword #prop #propreplica #propmaker #propmaking #proppainting #percyjacksonandtheolympians #walkerscobell

“You’re so much like your mother…” - Agatha Harkness Presenting Billy/Wiccan’s Crown from Agatha All Along. What a show! Like WandaVison, I absolutely loved Agatha All Along, it was a great continuation from that story and develops so much more! Given how much I enjoyed the show, I had to make a few things from it… starting with Billy’s crown. We all had a feeling about the true identity of the mysterious character called “Teen”, and yet the reveal of the son of the Scarlet Witch still left us stunned! Such a great character in both comics and now in live action. Seeing the unveiling of his crown was spectacular! Props to the amazing hard work done by the team over at Marvel, including Prop Master Russel Bobbitt, Costume Designer @danielselon , and Sculptor @thebrokennerd83 , as well as the incredible @joelocke03 , and show runner Jac Schaeffer. I wanted to have a crown for my own collection, and thankfully found some beautiful 3D files designed by @jc.3d_designs . They have done a great job at replicating this piece! The files I used for this build are of their version 2, but they have since updated the files with more accuracy! I had the files printed in a tough resin for extra strength, they were then lightly sanded, and primed, prior to a coat of gloss black, followed by a mirror chrome finish. For the blue I used two different shades, first a lighter translucent shade over the top of the chrome, followed by a slightly darker shade to go over certain edges and highlights to help give it an ombre effect. The crown was then sealed in a 2k gloss clear coat to give it a nice sheen and protective finish. #marvel #marvelstudios #marveltelevison #agathaallalong #agathaharkness #billymaximoth #wiccan #crown #wiccancrown #joelocke

“Oh, no. My sonic screwdriver, I loved my sonic screwdriver.” - The Doctor Oh look a new one! Presenting the Twelfth Doctor’s Broken Sonic Screwdriver, as seen in the Series 10 episode “Oxygen”. This was a fun commission to do! A client reached out to me with the idea to modify their pre-existing 12th sonic screwdriver toy by Character Options, into the damaged version of the sonic we see on screen in the episode, fun fact this is the same toy model of which the original broken props also used! For this particular commission, the client had requested that the sonic be reminiscent of both the original broken props, and with some elements of the hero props baked in, they also said I could take some creative liberties where I saw fit, which is always nice to be given some freedom on a project like this, to make it my own! I proceeded to disassemble the toy into the various components, ready to be sanded, primed, and repainted. The client had specifically suggested the blue paint to have a speckled appearance, which is found on some of the original props, so that was a fun process to try and replicate. For the broken section I used some aluminium from a can, which I painted, cut, and shaped to size, wrapping it around the inner core I had made, and then adding the crumpled and dented areas. Weight was added to the inside of the piece using an aluminium tube with a steel rod through the centre, giving it structure and weight. This is very much my own interpretation of the prop, being more weathered than the original, while using references of the originals for guidance. #doctorwho #sonicscrewdriver #12thdoctor #petercapaldi #brokensonicscrewdriver #prop #propreplica #propmaker #proppainter

“The Lightsaber has always been there to signify a more romantic time when there was more honour and virtue in hand to hand combat.” - George Lucas Presenting one of my latest custom Lightsabers, this particular piece being designed for a Jedi Padawan. Made entirely from scratch using a variety of found parts, as well as custom machined pieces, materials including, aluminium, brass, copper, and steel, as well as leather. Like on many of my previous custom builds, I like to refer to the routes of Lightsaber prop construction through the use of found parts, in particular vintage camera parts. This hilt features parts from various vintage cameras, including the emitter which is formed from pieces of the main lens on a Quarz 5 film camera. The switch section is made from two separate camera parts, such as a release button from a vintage flash handle, and the pommel section is made up of three different vintage pieces, including a camera lens housing, and a military radio cable attachment. I wanted to give this prop an interior, as if it would have to be featured on screen during an assembly or repair scene. Again using similar techniques as before, the interior of the hilt is primarily made up of found parts and greeblies, including interiors of vintage film cameras, and internals of an old electromagnetic motor, complete with copper coils. The one thing that is genuine about this build however is the Kyber Crystal, that I had to source from the icy depths of the crystal caves on the planet Ilum, a painted quartz crystal simply wouldn’t do… Finishing touches to the hilt include a genuine leather cord wrap, which has been weathered along with the rest of the saber, but in a way that gives it some age, while also appearing well looked after. I obviously had to add a subtle heat stain effect to the emitter shroud, this time in an unnatural colour variation due to the power of the blade. I really enjoyed putting this build together last month, and am looking forward to sharing more of my own designs and custom pieces like this in the future. #starwars #padawan #lightsaber #prop #propmaker #proppainter #customlightsaber #oneofakind #custombuild #kybercrystal

“In my life, when you find people who need your help, you help them, no matter what.” - Ahsoka Tano Here is yet another rendition of Ahsoka’s Lightsabers that have come through the workshop, this time using the ones that have been beautifully designed and produced by @asatstarsend , which I must say are my favourite versions and what I feel are one of the closest replicas to those we see on screen. For this project both hilts were given a complete repaint, as well as the addition of some light modifications to the emitter sections. I decided to repaint these hilts in the two tone style that the original props feature, although I wanted to go a little darker on the Shoto hilt as I preferred a stronger differentiation between the two, which is present on the official replicas made by EFX. These were lovely hilts to work with, excellent weight and construction, and will make a fine addition to my collection. I would highly recommend picking up a set if you’re looking for accurate, static hilts, at a great value. #starwars #ahsoka #ahsokatano #lightsaber #prop #propmaking #propmaker #proppainter #jedi #theforce #theclonewars #rebels #rosariodawson #davefiloni
