Portfolio launch: fundraising to support FPN initiatives and ongoing costs!

Clare Samuel @the_clare_samuel
Ritual, To Bend and To Shape series, 2018 Each image is available individually or as a portfolio set. Full details in our bio link!  BIO: Clare Samuel (FPN Co-Founder & Co-Director) is a visual artist originally from Northern Ireland, now living in Toronto. She holds a BFA from Toronto Metropolitan University and an MFA from Concordia University. Her work focuses on connection and distances between the self and other, as well as notions of social division, borders, and belonging. Spanning mediums such as photography, film, text, and installation, her projects are often a dialogue with the idea of portraiture, questioning how much it is or isn’t possible to know each other through images. She has exhibited internationally, including at OBORO, Belfast Exposed, VU Photo, Gallery TPW, and PAVED Arts. Clare’s practice has been supported by @canada.council @ontarioartscouncil @ongov & @torontoartscouncil
In the spirit of community and conversation, each print within this portfolio is selected by another FPN team member. Clare’s artwork was selected by FPN co-director @staceytyrell #claresamuel #feministart #staceytyrell

Thank you to all the participants who joined us for the first WOPHA Research Workshop: “First Was the Abyss” No. 1, curated by @aldeide_delgado , presented by @wophafoundation at the @brooklynmuseum . It was a powerful and special occasion: a day of dialogue, exchange, and collective imagining around the role of the Caribbean in shaping photographic histories, methodologies, and discourses. We are deeply grateful to the artists, scholars, and curators who shared their voices, to our team, our partners @pamm and Caribbean Cultural Institute and supporters @greenfforg @mellonfoundation who made this possible, and to the @brooklynmuseum for hosting us. This workshop marks the beginning of a long-term initiative: the Caribbean Photography Research Group. 🚨Swipe through for highlights of the day. 📸Photos by the great @laylahb #wophafoundation #brooklynmuseum #wopharesearchworkshop #caribbeanphotographyresearchgroup #CPRG

Honoured to be featured in the @airdgallery PORTRAITS 2025 exhibition, juried by Byron Armstrong! Visit airdgallery.org (link in bio) to view the exhibition and listen to Byron’s custom playlist. ✴ “Portraits” at John B. Aird gallery is a celebration of the power of portraiture in its many forms today and aims to show how the human condition is experienced across the human spectrum. Stewarded by John B. Aird Gallery Director Carla Garnet — who was gracious enough to allow my involvement as a co-juror — the lived experiences of various people are all represented by the artists’ images, many of which are also imbued with mischief, mirth, rebellion, stillness, joy, and reflection. The artists are themselves representative of the many cultures and communities that make up this country, and it is my fervent hope that no future generation need go without seeing a portrait of someone that speaks to them and their lived experience as a human being.” — Byron Armstrong
