1965: Malcolm in Winter: A Translation Exercise documents @theastergates ’s recent show at @whitecube Bermondsey, honouring Malcolm X on the centenary of his birth and 60 years after his assassination. The book weaves together Gates’s archival practice with documents from the Black radical archive of Japanese journalist Ei Nagata and his partner Haruhi Ishitani. Wrapped in a silver screen-printed buckram jacket, the publication walks readers through the exhibition’s architectural interventions, sculptures, archival materials and new film work. It includes an essay by Najha Zigbi-Johnson and a lively conversation between Gates, curator Zoé Whitley, and artist John Akomfrah on Black militancy, artistic solidarities and personhood. Published by @whitecube Edited by @honeyluard and Elaine ML Tam @deep_frill With installation process photographs by Polly Brown @pollyholiday , documenting the exhibition coming together

Another great collaboration with @charlesaspreytyersstreet & Michael Bracewell 🌹 Beauty in Some Recent Arts presents a timely and provocative case for beauty as central to contemporary art. In his essay, Michael Bracewell explores a renewed interest in aesthetics rooted in feeling rather than identity, and in a literary sensibility that avoids stereotype and sociopolitical jargon. Taking direct inspiration from Cecil Beaton’s famous Scrapbook, the small-format hardcover combines a variety of paper stocks—from Japanese embossed and kraft papers that reference elements of Bracewell’s text to cotton paper and glossy stock—creating a rich mix of tones and textures, and playing on the ambiguity of the publication title. Sidewalk Stills, a book designed for dear friend @charlesnegre , who has been capturing abandoned remnants as they were found on the pavement at the end of various Parisian food markets. Using raw materials, we ‘wrapped’ the image sequence in the simplest way possible, reflecting the practical spontaneity of the food markets themselves. Published by @rvb_books in collaboration with @lambertlambert_ With an essay by @maculabulligen All typeset in Rhymes by @maxitype_com
