My pilgrimage to New York was seeing Cinga Samsonâs exhibition âUkuphuthelwaâ, (the title is in isiXhosa and means âunable to sleepâ). The energetic realm of Cinga Samsonâs art is hard to translate into image, the works are so huge in spirit and the contrasts between light and darkness, details and full realm are fully mind-blowing. It is like visions and being in a body shatter and become one. Thank you @cinga_samson and @whitecube for inviting me and especially Yomna Osman for showing me around. Cinga Samsonâs earlier works can be seen in âWhen We See Usâ presently @liljevalchs curated by @madamekoyo and @tandazani produced by @zeitzmocaa
A Mystery Like You Have Never Seen
CINGA SAMSONâS EMBOLDENED NEW WORKS AT WHITE CUBE IN NYC
âBetween darkness and revelation, âUkuphuthelwaâ is a presentation of South African painter Cinga Samsonâs suite of new paintings at New Yorkâs White Cube Gallery. Tuning into the liminality of language as well as light, the exhibitionâs title, an isiXhosa word translating loosely to âunable to sleepâ, frames the works as moments of heightened awareness. Within Samsonâs brooding palette of near-blacks, deep blues, and carbon hues, the nocturnal world becomes a site of spiritual and psychological sensitivityâŚââ Charles Moore

Cape Town - Studio Visits
During our trip to Cape Town, we had the privilege of visiting several Cape Town artists based studios, where we engaged with exceptional artists and gained valuable insight into their creative processes. These visits consistently stand out as a highlight of our journey, and we are sincerely appreciative of the artists who took the time, offering us a deeper understanding of their practices.
The second studio visit was with @cinga_samson , as his upcoming exhibition at @whitecube approaches. While we are unable to share details of some of his works, we were fortunate to visit him just before. It was a great experience and was a great opportunity to experience his work in person ahead of his upcoming exhibition.
âCinga Samsonâs works inhabit and extend a painterly tradition, asserting their place within the long trajectory of figuration in art. This commitment to his metier facilitates an exploration of ideas around desire, power, mortality and transience. Weaving together the classical and the contemporary, Samson creates images with symbolic, spiritual and social inferences, drawn together by subjective narrative.â
