SN Variations

Congratulations to @max_andrzejewski for winning the @deutscherjazzpreis in the composition category, for his piece “das Summen meiner Teile” - written for and played by @ensembleresonanz - the piece was part of Summen released via SN Variations last year. Fantastic to see more more attention for Max’s composition with more to follow later this year.

A relatively quiet year with three projects. Thanks for everyone involved and who supported 1. We organised with @constructivemusic three performances, including this one at dusk, of Chris Watson's Namib in the Octagon at Queen Mary University 2. A digital only release of Summen by drummer, composer Max Andrzejewski performed by Ensemble Resonanz 3. The release of Affordances composed by Heleen Van Haegenborgh and performed by Musarc, including a stunning concert on Summer Solstice in St Pau's Bow More to follow in 2026. Happy New Year.

Summer solstice celebration and album launch of Affordances by Musarc and Heleen Van Haegenborgh tonight in Bow.

Affordances by Musarc and Heleen Van Haegenborgh is out today. Released on digital and in a standard black vinyl edition and an edition of 30 lathe cut clear orange vinyl with screen printed sleeve. There will also be tomorrow an album launch and Midsummer Day concert at St Pauls Bow from 6.30 until dusk. Tickets and details at musarc.org

Come and celebrate with us this Saturday at ‘Staring at the Sun’ at St Paul’s Bow Common, Musarc’s midsummer concert and album launch. Affordances presents four works writ­ten by Belgian com­pos­er @heleenvanhaegenbrgh for UK exper­i­men­tal choral ensem­ble Musarc between 2019 – 25. Scored for voices and free melod­ic instru­ments, each piece tunes into a dif­fer­ent dimen­sion of the vibrant and orac­u­lar polypho­ny of the chorus, its joy­ful hal­lu­ci­na­tions, its many languages and the ways it has with the world as a body of bod­ies, sin­gu­lar and plur­al: at times sound­ing restrained and haunt­ing­ly beau­ti­ful, at oth­er times triumphant and clear. Recorded over two days in April 2025 at @luca.schoolofarts , Ghent. A preview of what we created in Ghent can be heard on Bandcamp where you can also pre-order the album. Physical copies, including a special edition of the vinyl – with a sleeve screen-printed by @ghost.editions and an orange vinyl lathe-cut by @bladudflies – will be available on the night, in collaboration with @snvariations . Saturday evening will also feature live extracts from Haegenborgh’s music. Who do I know in London? Welcome to the Album Launch of “Affordances” June 21. The LP Musarc created features my music with commissions for mixed choir from 2019 to 2025.
