No one says making movies is easy, and making this short certainly proved just that. Dartmoor can be pretty inhospitable at the best of times, and shooting in December brought amber wind warnings, horizontal rain, and freezing temperatures that inevitably cut principal photography short (back in 2023).
Without a doubt, I wouldn’t be sharing these images with you without the sheer determination of two very special people:
@_______wij_______ who not only wrote and directed this beautifully but continued to fight to get it completed against all odds, and of course
@robjelley who produced this with great sense and kept us on track (safe and warm) throughout.
We looked at a whole range of references for this, of course plenty of films but also wanted to bring my love of painting and photography into the mix too. Hope you can see elements of: Graham Sutherland, Anslem Keifer, Joseph Wright, Hammershøi and a touch of Todd Hido to name a few.
Of course, short films like this would be impossible to make without the incredible crews who generously come on board to help. A special mention must go to my team on this one for the wet, cold, and long days on Dartmoor. A lot of time was spent drying socks by the fire and every spare inch of radiator space.
