We sat down with DP Brandon Cox (@bcoxdp ), an AFI Conservatory graduate and twenty-four-year martial artist, to discuss his second collaboration with director RZA, starring Shameik Moore. Brandon walked us through his Shotdeck-based visual development process — printing over a hundred reference sheets to build the film’s look with RZA from the ground up — the decision to shoot on ARRI Alexa Mini with Hawk V-Lite Vintage ’74 anamorphics, and a grade pushed hard into 1970s exploitation film territory by design.
