Warning: contains content about miscarriage & birthing that may be triggering (sending gentleness outward) Sharing the single art (by @maryamshines_ ) for “Angel Spark”, our 1st single release from our forthcoming album, Dawn. This is a sonogram photo of our 2nd rainbow baby, Jaden, when he was the same age as our 1st angel spark baby that I miscarried (the one who originally inspired this song). I’ve had two miscarriages and couldn’t have imagined writing and releasing a song about them. But something shifted for me pretty quickly as I was moving through the grief of my first one. It’s so common. 1 in 4 birthing people have and/or are moving through this same or a similar experience…so I decided to share (through music) a bit about what it was like for me. It kind of felt like the only thing I could do at the time. In addition to sharing, I also want to acknowledge how fortunate we are. We now have two healthy children. We are so grateful. I don’t really know what else to say at this point. Just wanted to share a bit more context here leading up to this release on Friday. 🚨Dawn is officially out today! 🥹🤯💫🤍 This song cycle has been five years in the making and it feels a bit surreal that it’s available everywhere today. Super grateful to have been able to document this journey through miscarriage, pregnancy and motherhood thus far through my music and even more grateful to share it with you. My sincere hope is that the music + sharing that we’ve done through this project finds whoever it’s meant to find. In this insane moment, music can be both comforting and illuminating. I don’t claim that this music will be either of those things, but perhaps it will bring/shed just a little light. What does it mean to be human in a society capable of both extraordinary idealism and profound injustice? Why are humans capable of profound selflessness and, at the same time, violence and erasure? How do we reckon with a history that is both generative and painful—and how do we continue striving toward something more just? We will never forget this moment at our first Well-Being concert last night featuring @secsmiles This is the moment Sarah and Camille met for the first time in real life after co-creating a lullaby together exactly five years ago over zoom at the height of the pandemic through our lullaby project. What a gift to be in the room as Sarah and Camille brought this lullaby to life with the baby it was written for in the room to receive it, now five years old. Pure magic. This is what the world needs to be filled with right now ans always. Songs of birth, celebration, and light. What a dream come true.
