In May 1976, Isaac Stern organized the now-legendary “Concert of the Century,” which brought together some of the world’s greatest musicians in an effort to save Carnegie Hall. Fifty years later—and 135 years after the opening of the Hall—a new lineup of Carnegie Hall icons makes music history of its own. Limited tickets remain for the 50th Anniversary of the Concert of the Century on May 5! 👉 carnegiehall.org 🎥: Photos courtesy of the Carnegie Hall Rose Archives. Many thanks to Gino Francesconi, Carnegie Hall’s founding archivist and historian emeritus, whose account and memory of the event informed much of this video.

@rhiannongiddens returned to our largest stage for an extraordinary evening and exploration of the roots of early American music! Part of “United in Sound: America at 250,” Giddens was joined by The Old-Time Revue (Justin Robinson, @dirkpowellofficial , @ibassnote , @amelia.rose.powell , and @demxmusic ) and an extraordinary lineup of guest artists, including @johnnyg2703 , @leylacello , @timeriksenmusic , @niweltsumbuguitar , @francescoturrisimusic , and @charlylowry . From the birth of the banjo in the early 1700s through its prevalence in minstrelsy and the rise of the early recording industry, the evening’s program traced musical connections from Nigeria to the piedmont of North Carolina, from the Congo to Louisiana, and beyond. 📷: Stefan Cohen
