One of my favorite moments from Biscuits & Banjos Presents: Beloved Community. In case y’all missed it, we launched the @biscuitsandbanjosfoundation last month! We’ll be curating concerts, community gatherings, educational projects, funding initiatives, and partnerships with artists and organizations, in order to trace the Black origins of American music and culture back to the people and communities of the African diaspora. Find out how to be a part of a more full and honest history of American culture, while supporting the often erased, exploited, or forgotten communities at the link in my bio Photo: @bramblebrook_media

Your #BanjoAunti is back with a special guest! @mehdi_nassouli is here to teach you about the guembri from Morocco, which surely feels like a cousin to the banjo to me! Notice the right hand technique is very similar. Thank you Mehdi!

@rhiannongiddens rehearses “Up Above My Head” ahead of her sold-out Carnegie Hall concert! Joined by The Old-Time Revue and an incredible lineup of guest artists, Giddens reimagines this gospel classic—first made famous by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight in 1947—as part of “The Hidden Soundtrack of America.”

We did it! Another sold out night at @carnegiehall in the books. Thank you to everyone who was a part of my show: The Hidden Soundtrack of America. As I said onstage, WE get to choose the parts of America’s history that we celebrate. Tailors, singers, builders, farmers, djelis, bards, princes, mothers, wives, sons, daughters, husbands…. People not often given a lot of choice, but who persisted and who make up the true tapestry of American culture. From all over the world from the very beginning, of disparate experiences, climates, and expectations, they quickly found that the best way to communicate is through music, dance and humanity. These are our best impulses and the things to celebrate the most. Special thanks to: • Justin Robinson (@countrygentlemancooks ), Fiddle and Vocals • Dirk Powell, Guitar, Fiddle, Cajun Accordion, and Vocals • Jason Sypher (@ibassnote ), Bass • Amelia Powell (@amelia.rose.powell ), Guitar and Vocals • Demeanor (@demxmusic ), Bones and Banjo • Johnny Gandelsman (@johnnyg2703 ), Violin • Leyla McCalla (@leylacello ), Cello, Tenor Banjo, and Vocals • Tim Eriksen (@timeriksenmusic ), Guitar, Kaval and Shape-Note Singing • Niwel Tsumbu (@niweltsumbuguitar ), Guitar and Vocals • Francesco Turrisi (@francescoturrisimusic ), Accordion, Percussion, and Piano • Charly Lowry (@charlylowry ), Percussion and Vocals • Lalenja Harrington (@lalenja07 ), Vocals • Laurelyn Dossett (@laurelyndossett ), Vocals
