I recently had the chance of speaking with Elizabeth Peyton on the occasion of her exhibition ‘mountains in my heart (the death of Sarpedon)’ at @davidzwirner in New York. A conversation around the face as a site of intensity—where attention is the purest form of generosity. And also about geography and displacement, spirituality, mountains, Emerson, Simone Weil, and the Iliad. Thank you @meicost_ettal for the invitation and for your generosity And to @davidzwirner for hosting this conversation This amazing exhibition is currently on view at the 19th Street location, don’t miss it 💎

ON VIEW — Merry Alpern ‘Dirty Windows’ exhibition organised by @tramp.s and @magmajournal until Dec. 15, 2025 McGlynn’s Staff Accommodation 1-5 Whidborne Street London WC1H 8ET Floor 2 One evening in 1993, Merry Alpern visited a friend living in Manhattan’s Wall Street district. At the back of the loft, she discovered a window overlooking the bathroom of an illegal strip club. Night after night, she watched a parade of suited traders and dancers in sequins exchanging kisses, cash, and drugs—in a clandestine choreography of desire and illicit transactions. For six months, Alpern assembled a body of work as powerful as it is unsettling. Dirty Windows is no mere expression of voyeuristic curiosity. It is a striking vision of the human condition—wretched and sorrowful even in its most sordid pleasures. When first shown in 1994, the series sparked scandal. The National Endowment for the Arts withdrew the artist’s grant, but the act of censorship only accelerated her rise to prominence. Cult for some, provocative to others, Merry Alpern’s work offers a two-way vertigo of being both watcher and watched. The exhibition brings together for the first time, works that have never been exhibited before. #MerryAlpern #Magma #MagmaJournal #DirtyWindows #Tramps @magmajournal @tramp.s

On the occasion of the release of @magmajournal No. 3 ‘Archive of the Future’ an exhibition extends the publication into space. Installed at 127 rue de Turenne, this curatorial project brings together a selection of original works featured in the book: paintings, photographs, sculptures, as well as sound and film installations. Staged by the Paris-based studio @matiere.noire.paris the exhibition offers a singular encounter: the possibility of inhabiting a book, of living alongside its artworks. Among the featured works: poetic voice recordings by sculptor Charles Ray; two recent portraits by Elizabeth Peyton; a series of unpublished Polaroids by Jonas Mekas accompanied by drawings from Yoko Ono and John Lennon; a triptych — one sculpture and two charcoal drawings — by Pol Taburet; a set of works by Jill Mulleady in homage to Lautréamont’s hermaphrodite; a painting by Stanislava Kovalčíková; a mirror painting by Michelangelo Pistoletto; the monumental Guillotine (1971) by Michel Journiac; a special series by Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys; Jean-Luc Godard’s very first film (Opération Béton, 1954), followed by a sound installation by Stephan Crasneanscki presented by the Biennale Son and a work by Patti Smith; and Jonathan Glazer’s short film Strasbourg 1518, screened for the first time in a public space, accompanied by a soundtrack by Mica Levi and performed by dancers from Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal. The exhibition will be open to the public from 20 October to 19 November 2025. The publication will be available on site, as well as in a selection of bookstores, galleries, and museums around the world. Throughout the month, the exhibition will be punctuated by screenings, listening sessions, readings, talks, performances, and encounters with the artists.
