I spent the past several months rooted in tradition. Learning the rituals that my family has upheld for generations. Part of my ongoing journey of returning home.
In this frame, my uncle and cousin are burning joss paper at Luermen Tianhou Temple on Lunar News Years. A tradition of honoring those who’ve left us, in hopes that they continue to prosper in the afterlife.
This year was met with such unexplainable feelings of joy and loss. I wanted to share a frame from one of the most heartwarming films I photographed this past year with my dear friend @jocelynwoods . In moments when I didn’t know which direction to turn, I looked to these children. Their curiosity and open gaze at the world in such wonder showed me how beautiful everything is when you don’t fully understand it all. That there is magic left in the unknown, moving us forward.
