The Asia Pacific Society for Consortium Museum, co-chaired by Marguo co-founder Vanessa Guo
@vanguo and museum co-director Seungduk Kim
@sdkim1209 , is proud to support the upcoming two-part international survey of Japanese artist Shigeo Otake
@shigeootake — beginning with Chapter I, ‘Nel mezzo del cammin,’ opening 4 May 2026 during the inaugural week of the 61st Venice Biennale.
Presented in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Zon from 4 May to 28 June 2026, the first chapter represents the "Open Path" of Otake's artistic maturity — featuring oil and tempera compositions spanning the past thirty years, curated by Consortium Museum directors Franck Gautherot
@franckgautherot and Seungduk Kim. Through these works, Otake builds a world where hybrid creatures, fungal forms, and proliferating organic life converge, evoking the symbolic density of Trecento and Quattrocento painting while opening onto imagery altogether more uncanny.
The survey continues with 'Chapter II, ‘Per una selva oscura,’ opening July 2026 at the Consortium Museum in Dijon, France as a central component of the museum’s “Almanach 26” biennial — delving into the "Dense Forest" of Otake's foundational origins through historical paintings, drawings, and preparatory works from the 1970s to 1990s.
Founded in 2024, APS4CM formalises the Consortium Museum's long-standing commitment to bridging East and West. Following its inaugural programming with Xie Fan, Chen Fei, and Korakrit Arunanondchai, the Shigeo Otake survey marks APS4CM's most ambitious project to date.
