Xie Fan at Maison Ming, Hong Kong ☀️🌙 Opening on 22 March to mark the beginning of Art Basel Hong Kong week, Marguo and Maison Ming (@maisonming ) are pleased to present ‘In Between 之間’, a site-specific exhibition by Chinese artist Xie Fan (@xiexiexiefan ). Unfolding within the historic architecture of a traditional Tai Hang shophouse, the exhibition finds its compass in the name of the space itself. "Ming" (明), formed by the union of the sun (日) and the moon (月), serves as the conceptual anchor for the works on view. Across four thematic constellations — Sun, Moon, Flame, and Sea — Xie Fan traces light not as a static backdrop, but as a shifting condition. Moving through the textures of the building and receding into its narrow, vertical volumes, the work mirrors the passage of time and the quiet return of light to the city's surfaces. [ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟐𝟔𝐭𝐡! ] Maison Ming is thrilled to host their first art project: “Vanishing Act” a solo show by artist Liu Shuwei @shuwei_liu The exhibition will be open from 24 March to 26 April 2025, please book your visit on maisonming.com/art — In his works, Liu traces dissolving boundaries, fading cultural scenes, and a figure seeking to disappear. He imagines existing in another form, trying to bridge the tangible and the intangible—stepping into fissures and shadows, following ripples, drifting, dissolving. In Liu’s photographs and installations, the mundane is imbued with strangeness and distance, while the remote is brought almost within reach; metal and translucent gauze serve as hints to sensory memory, while light passing through overlapping film suggests the nonlinear nature of recollection. Following the first chapter of this series, “Tides, Yes, Breathing”, which debuted last fall in Paris at the legendary Hôtel La Louisiane, “Vanishing Act” continues at Maison Ming, a meticulously restored 1940s tong lau, now a space dedicated to contemporary expressions of design and art. Set within the layered architecture of this historic building, the exhibition invites viewers on an intimate reflection—around corners, up stairs, through attics and niches, step by step toward abstraction, and perhaps deeper into an inner space.
