The 2026 edition of @sound_arguments starts soon. Over twenty sound makers, working across multiple fields and practices, will come together over the next four months in our programme. Let’s meet them! Luis Lecea Romera @luislecea (ES) is an artist, composer, and researcher based in Amsterdam and Madrid, with a background in architecture and contemporary music. His practice manipulates the aural-tactile-visual continuum through installations, compositions, and performances. Employing field recording, archival sound, altered objects, and speculative instrument-building, his work investigates the affective and narrative capabilities of vibration and resonance set against bodily, architectural, and landscape contexts. He currently holds a Postgraduate Fellowship from the “la Caixa” Foundation in support of his doctoral research with the Sound Studies Center (ACPA) of Leiden University. Image: @catareyesnavarro

Entangled by a multi-layered scenography @artietamicitiae , THEY ARE PLACES WITHOUT LEAVES (cities have no name for me) is an abandoned city dreamt together by eight artists with a collective interest in the artistic impulse of preservation and the rhythms and layers of life cycles. In this place without leaves, humans and their grand efforts are decentralised across mediums, only their traces remaining – to be explored with all our senses. Works by: @julietaaltonen @leo_arnold1 @elena.giolo @arthuj.rules @luislecea @niklaus_mettler @kleonikistanich @sophie_wright_ Graphic design by: @cleotsw This project is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts). Bajo, Relieve (Low, Relief) is a series of site-responsive sound installations employing seismic recordings from the 2021 La Palma volcanic eruption to disrupt exhibition spaces through tremors in their architecture. No.1 (2022) drywall, mounting structure, tactile transducers, power amplifier, 6-channel audio Three exhibition walls in @teatenerife configure two stereo spaces and two mono spaces, where the piece becomes visible through the intermittent tremble of other artworks in the museum. A year ago, we were waking up from the longest dream of the winter induced to us during @infinity_rug , a journey where sound and touch intertwined to create a space of release and togetherness at @savvycontemporary . Woven in conversation with marum and Lou, and in company of shh…~ penny and Yen at the Cave of Murmurs, we opened the portal to ‘lucid spectrum’, a 6-channel audio installation attempting to solace collective grief through more-than-aural listening. Bone-conductive vibrations and pain-relieving frequencies were felt through soft silicone shapes for a shared exploration of the interiority of bodies as spaces for release and healing through resonance. Forever thankful for the invitation, care, and trust in helping to shape this moment of suspension, made possible with the collective effort of Aaron Lang @a.h.lang , BLEID @bleid.xyz , em~body @heybabeitsem , Jules Petru Fricker @shiazlegz , Lou Drago @lou__drago , Mar @azuldipem , Maria F. Scaroni, marum @marum.welt , MINQ @soundslikeminq , mma Kgosi @blaqq_bear , oxi peng @pennybirdy , Rita Mazza @kerenvonschwarz , Diwana (Romeo Natur @r.natur + Ümit Ürgen), Sybil @sybil_dj , and Yen Chun Lin @yensouffle.zip , and everyone who came to gather in attunement. All impressions beautifully captured by Ali Bay @lickmyglitch . ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆ infinity rug is a sonic-seance initiated by marum and Lou Drago.

Introducing our selected RE:SOURCE residency artist: Luis Lecea Romera We are very excited to announce the selected artist for the RE:SOURCE Residency | Part 2: The Sanctuary. We congratulate Luis Lecea Romera on being selected for the residency located at the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve Gerês-Xurês, in the North Region of Portugal. In collaboration with FIBER and Semibreve Festival, Luis will explore the contradictions of the Natural Reserve as an area for the protection of some desirable species at the expense of others. Luis Lecea Romera is an artist, architect and musician based in Madrid and Amsterdam. His practice manipulates material and aural spaces through site-relational installations, compositions and performances. For this residency, Luis will research the history of Portugal’s eucalyptus trees, which are used in the production of eucalyptus cellulose for papermaking. More than 160 years have passed since the first eucalyptus seeds arrived in Galicia, making it an invader species within the landscapes. Eucalypti are evergreen, fast-growing, and, most importantly, highly profitable. However, they are criticized for their impact on local flora and high flammability. Despite this, the Portuguese paper industry opposes regulations on eucalyptus cultivation. In the context of the residency and its preparation, Luis will focus on the chainsaw as a contradictory tool for the building and protection of what we understand as a natural sanctuary. The research will lead into a multichannel sound installation, using the structure of 12 various chainsaw-blades. The resulting composition will be written as a sound action that invites to reflect through sound on the contradictions of contemporary landscapes, and its irregular rhythms and pulses. ➤ More about his research on our website (link in bio) @semibreve @luislecea @stimuleringsfonds @afk020 . .
