If there was ever an irrefutable use case for a probe lens, it would be to stick it into the middle of a beehive… Frédéric Dutil was set on building a business that could also have an environmental impact. As a chemical engineer with a masters in food biotechnology, he left his career behind to study beekeeping, and founded a distillery using only the honey produced from beehives he tends across Québec City. An absolute pleasure to feature his story, and a healthy reminder that success in business doesn’t require endless consumption of our surroundings. Scenes and visual excerpts from recent work for @turbotaxcanada , in this case featuring @brittneehabbib and her @gpowerd gymnastics program, an initiative to cultivate a cultural identity for young black girls in the sport. For 4 years, we’ve had the opportunity to travel across the country, meeting unique people and hearing their stories as part of this series. I’m not sure if I otherwise would have ever found myself on a lobster boat in Nova Scotia watching the sun rise over the Atlantic, jamming my hand into a beehive for the sake of cinematography, or on this occasion trying to pretend that there’s not a big trampoline right next to where we’re shooting and how many times is too many times for a 30-something year old adult to be seen by client and crew bouncing intermittently throughout the shoot day before it’s deemed highly unprofessional? Trampolines aside, a continued thank you to our subjects and team for letting us tell these stories. Riccardo Baldini was 25 and healthy until one day he woke up paralyzed from the chest down. A trained concert pianist, the injury took away his ability to play the instrument he had spent his life mastering.
