A couple of years ago I was in Newport Beach, with plans to stay there for a few weeks. About 5 days in I got a call at 5 pm asking if I could be on set at 7 am the next day on Vancouver Island. I said - “Is it worth it?” To which Mike replied “it could be?” Unable to tell me what I’d be shooting I decided it’s unlikely I can make it but may as well try. Quickly gathered my things, got the last flight out of LAX, I knew no ferry would get me there for 7, so I called my trusty pal Dennis and asked for a 6 am Cessna drop off boundary bay to Courtney. Happy I did because this show looks hilarious and I loved getting to have a hand in the camera side of it!
One of my favourite parts when making a film like creatures of habit is the trips and the adventures that go along with it. When shooting the film, I tried to keep in mind capturing as much as I could from behind the scenes for a series following the release. Episode one of “Behind the Habit” is now up on our YouTube and there will be more to come from the journeys and stories told by the surfers and filmers as well as footage that never made the cut. Big thank you to @atleoair for their support on this one. Link in bio
The other day I watched Red Bul’s new film Now Days, which is one of the best pieces of work I’ve seen in surfing in a while. What stood out is how (in my opinion) beyond everyone else @erinbrookssurf is with her surfing. Here’s a few moments from Hawai’i during the filming window for that film, go watch it!
Whipped up a little YouTube edit for @camrichards last week for him. Check it out. He went looney for the first day until a near knee disaster had him sidelined unfortunately. Pretty wild what he put down in a little less than 48 hours!

During one of our Creatures Of Habit trips, we found ourselves bored yet inspired. Pete wanted to do a little skit and I wanted to visit the value village to prepare for what I felt like was inspired partly by strange brew and partly by our hockey heritage as Canadians. What turned out was completely made up on the spot yet somehow made the final film and could be one of my favourite memories from the project.
