Leo Villareal’s (@leo_villareal , @leo_villareal_studio ) “Illuminated River” is a vibrant, long-term installation on view across nine bridges along the Thames in London 📍. - Spanning the London Bridge to the Lambeth Bridge, “Illuminated River” features subtly moving sequences of LED light that reveal the beauty of the architecture of London’s bridges and their relationship to the river that flows beneath them, bringing to life aspects of the city otherwise hidden after dark. - Tap the link in bio to learn more about our presentation of Villareal’s and Maya Lin’s work in our dual-artist booth at #FriezeNewYork this week ⏳. As part of our presentation of Leo Villareal’s work at #FriezeNewYork this week, we’re highlighting some of his site-specific works around the world. - In San Francisco, the artist’s “The Bay Lights”—which debuted in 2013 and is one of the largest public artworks in the world, spanning 1.8 miles of the Bay Bridge—has returned to the city for an additional ten years following the installation of a newly designed and fabricated lighting system. - Tap the link in bio to learn more about our presentation of Villareal’s and Maya Lin’s work in our dual-artist booth at Frieze New York. Leo Villareal’s (@leo_villareal , @leo_villareal_studio ) public works employ living code that manifests as luminous light patterns. - This year, the artist unveiled “Celestial Passage,” a permanent, site-specific artwork commissioned by JPMorganChase for the crown of its new global headquarters at 270 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Using custom-built software and 1.5 million programmable LEDs, Villareal has sculpted harmonious swaths of light that play across the exterior of the 60-story skyscraper in symphonic movements, altering the New York City skyline. - Villareal and Maya Lin, two giants of public art, are the focus of our dual-artist booth this week for #FriezeNewYork: - 📍Booth B10 📆May 13 – 17 🗺️The Shed (@theshedny ) - Installation Views: "Celestial Passage, 2026," JP Morgan Chase Global Headquarters, New York, NY, Photo Credit: Nigel Young/Foster + Partners; all works © Leo Villareal, courtesy Pace Gallery

Illuminated River began as a bold idea: to connect London’s bridges through a single artwork, while letting each one keep its own unique identity. Five years on, it remains the world’s longest public art commission, enjoyed by millions of people every year. Happy 5th Anniversary Illuminated River. A huge thank you to the many people, partners and collaborators who brought the vision to life, in particular: ✨ Our funders and supporters Rothschild Foundation, Arcadia Fund, Blavatnik Family Foundation, @reubenfoundation_ and @mayorofldn ✨ Team @leovillareal , @lds_architects ✨ Bridge owners @networkrail , @transportforlondon , @cityoflondoncorp , @citywestminster , @citybridgefoundation ✨ Partners @fm_conway , @signifycompany , @atelier_ten

An evening at the water’s edge as The Cultural Index returned to Mission Rock. Earlier this week, guests including Yves Behar of @fuseprojectsf , Ben Davis of @illuminatethearts , Manjit Singh of @uber , Matt Girard of @pinterest , Josh Baillon of @capgemini , Tony Bates of Genesys, Helen Hilton Raiser, and Jennifer Raiser, along with leaders from civic and cultural institutions including FOG Art, ICA SF, SFMOMA, SFJAZZ, Asian Arts Museum, Illuminate Ventures, and Jessica Silverman Gallery, gathered for dinner at Via Aurelia before heading to the waterfront at China Basin Park to experience “The Bay Lights” by artist Leo Villareal, now live on the Bay Bridge. Visible from the Mission Rock waterfront, the installation illuminates the skyline nightly from dusk to dawn. The evening brought together leaders across business, technology, and the arts for a shared experience centered on public art and the San Francisco waterfront. Part of our global series in partnership with Genesys. To learn more about Mission Rock, visit missionrock.com. #TSCulturalIndex #TheBayLights #TheBayLights360 #IlluminateTheArts #PublicArt

A gorgeous glow-up for one of the oldest bridges on the Thames. Leo Villareal's artwork celebrates Cannon Street Bridge's utilitarian character and monumental Doric columns, with subtle kinetic colours mirroring the motion of the trains passing above. @networkrail #CannonStreetBridge #BridgesofLondon #Glowup
