So honored to be nominated for a BSC award for my work in ‘What it Feels like for a Girl’. I shot the final block of the tv series. Very grateful to @sibell1984 and @katereiddp who went before me, and put together an amazing team who made my work joyful and easy (@beargripsuk @cai.thompson @lewiss_williams Gary Chaisty) Thanks to @mariekristiansen for trusting me and creating the vision together. Episode 7 happens all inside a prison. Just one location but we tried to make it visually interesting, emotional and very subjective to our main character (beautifully played by @ellisfrancishoward ) @gemrandall_ built an incredible cell elevated so we could play with the camera But above all, thanks to my peers the @bscine for thinking our work was worth a nomination. It’s an incredible honor

‘Amoeba’ is a film I shot in Singapore last year. Directed by @seeuoo follow four misfit teenagers who are trying to find their space on an authoritarian all-girls school. It reflect on growing up in Singapor, feeling rebellious and exploring life. It had its premiere in the Toronto film Festival and since then it has been travelling to different festivals around the world winning some awards in the way. I had an amazing hard working team that took so much care of me while shooting lost in translation Focus puller: @kerxx 2nd AC: @zolynnphua 3rd AC: @hx__ DIT: @muneshvaradaraju Gaffer: @kingofilm Best boy: @misuse90 Key grip: @keltech90 Grips: @kosweekheng @viviennechonggg

Here @la_neus For my last post I thought I’ll share some frames from my first feature film ‘El Cant dels Ocells’ (Birdsong) directed by Albert Serra. I had just finished my course at the NFTS when I got a call from Albert. I had worked on his first movie as a camera assistant and he wanted me to film his second film. He is an unconventional filmmaker, very interesting. The film tells the journey of the three wise men on their way to find Jesús. We used non actors, and the script was only a guide, the scenes had no dialogues on specific actions. It was mainly an improvisation. Our way of shooting was closer to documentary but we had set dogma: the composition had to be very pictorial, we’ll shoot B&W and camera was not allowed to move. Which is tricky when the actors are improvising, and there is no repetition of the actions… so we used 2 cameras to have angles, and options on the edit. Most days we didn’t know what we’ll be shooting, and the director was creating the scenes while filming… It was a huge learning experience, I had to be open to the present. And forget about any conventional way of making a film. I was also pulling my own focus. On the last picture you can see me being held by the director to get a shot while the tide is rushing in… The film premiered at Cannes at the Quinzaine de Cineastes and we got a Gaudi Award for best cinematography (I share the credit with Jimmy Gimferrer who was operating the 2nd camera). A prove that sometimes the simpler things go very far, and that you don’t need much to create beautiful work

Here @la_neus . On 2020 we were about to shoot the limited series ‘Too Close’ for ITV when the pandemic hit. After some months of lock down, we finally started filming. The tv series follows the story of a woman who drove her car with 2 children on the back off a bridge in the middle of a rainy night. Her conversation with a psychiatrist while waiting for trial. The scenes of the woman driving off the bridge were quite complicated for security reasons, the stunt, the rain,… plus the actress couldn’t drive. We shot a combination of real location for the action. And all the interiors were shot on a set. This was 2020 when the volume just came up for Mandalorian. The car was shot on a combination of projection and some LEDs screens for lights and reflections. Directed by: Sue Tully and Bruce Goodison Staring: @denisegough1 and Emily Watson Produced:@snowedin Gaffer: Chris Georgas Focus puller: @pauljosephdain Grip: @edlancasterphoto Grade: @jodiemdavidson Production designer: Tom Bowyer Shot on the Alexa Mini + Cooke Panchro

Here @la_neus today to show a bit from a film very close to my heart The feature film ‘La Furia’ debut film from @la.blasco produced by @ringomedia . It premiered at the @sxsw this year. The film follows a woman who is raped and all her journey afterwards. All the feelings and rage that she feels and how through the theatre she finds a way to heal… on the other hand her brother chooses the path of fury. We wanted the film to have a very visceral and raw look. Feeling very close to our main character. We chose to go handheld. I really enjoy the closeness to the actress and all the dance we create with the camera. The film didn’t have a great budget but we used all of it very wisely. I had a great crew and a great gaffer @lluismaymo behind me who I trusted to be my extra pair of eye on the monitor. A key when you’re operating and running around with the camera in your shoulder. @ivi_koyck my focus puller did a brilliant job following me around We shot with an @arri Alexa Mini LF and the wonderful @7isatribe T Tuned

Here @la_neus the last episode of ‘What it Feels Like for a Girl’ had a completely different look from previous episode set inside the prison. Byron is living life as girl finally. The colorful palette of the tv series is back, and we embrace the contrast of colors and saturation. @mariekristiansen , the director wanted a very poppy and playful look for the finale of the series. We shot in a combination of real locations and sets beautifully crafted by gemrandall_ and her team. They had so much texture and layer that it was a joy to light. And with a few light we could create beautiful images Director: @mariekristiansen Gaffer: Gary Chaisty Focus puller: @cai.thompson Key Grip: @beargripsuk DIT: @lewiss_williams Grader: @cort.in.colour

Hello Neus Ollé BSC AEC @la_neus here and it’s an honor to be taking over for the next week. I’ll be sharing some of my work, please feel free to ask anything or get I touch! Here a bit about myself: I’m originally from a town near Barcelona, as a teenager I was always hiding behind a stills camera as I was quite shy. I went to a film school in Barcelona (ESCAC) and after that I worked briefly as a camera assistant. I moved to UK to attend the NFTS and studied a MA in cinematography that was years ago… and since then I have been fortunate to be able to work as a cinematographer. I have shot several films, tv series and commercials mainly between Spain and the UK. But work has taken me to work in countries all around the world. I love how different each project can be and all the people you meet along the way. I really enjoy working with the camera and my shoulder close to the actors but also love when we have a very technical scene with some gadgets to play with. Being a cinematographer is not a easy path, but sometimes when I feel low, between projects or not sure about the next job…. I think about that teenager who dreamt about doing movies and I can’t believe that I’m actually living that life.
