Alcuni dei più brillanti designer di sempre sono stati formati in questa università, perciò scoprire i nuovi talenti della scuola è sempre un’esperienza emozionante. Siamo stati nel backstage della sfilata per farci raccontare da Fabio Piras, leader del corso MA Fashion, e da alcuni suoi studenti come hanno preso vita le loro nuove collezioni. Cosa ne pensate?

Last night, the collections of the students from the prestigious MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins were presented. Some of the most brilliant designers of all time have been trained at this university, so discovering the school’s new talents is always an exciting experience. We went backstage at the show to hear from Fabio Piras, leader of the MA Fashion course, and some of his students about how their new collections came to life. What do you think?
What was the value of this year’s most anticipated graduation show, especially amidst a London Fashion Week deemed “dead”? Was it about reviving it, kickstarting it (the show was moved to Thursday after a long-standing tradition of its Friday night slot), or reminding us of what LFW should be about? The concepts of the 2025 cohort were strong, but the emphasis was clearly on the materials. This refreshing focus on the art of making, coupled with confident expertise in craft and sustainability, led us to question whether the future for these emerging talents should be the one that is mapped out for them: a presentation space at London Fashion Week, a support scheme’s showroom in Paris for a season or two, or perhaps a spot on the website of an online stockist after a small order. The predictability of this system for young designers is limited and ephemeral, and today’s creators are both industry- and craft-literate enough to outgrow it. Will these designers resist the urge to mould themselves into what the emerging fashion ecosystem expects of them to give LFW another season of newness? Or will they harness their creative drive to forge more original and fulfilling paths? CSM’s latest cohort of MA grads led the way with accessories: there were tinsel heels, belted loafers and gingham bonnets that shot to the top of our wish lists. A teapot (!) hat made an appearance, plus a textured bubble dress with someone’s face blown up on both sides.
We’re one day into LFW but this bodes well for the rest of the week. What a mega start to the shows 🫖
