"Spark of Hope" for Beacon Pacific Village. Such a cool project including 21 interior murals, where I got to create one of them. This piece is in the Community Room, where kids and families will have a space to play, draw, read, hang out, and watch TV.
Plants and flowers radiate out from the spark. Each plant has a symbolic meaning for resilience, hope, and community. I hope it brings joy and some artistic inspiration to all the families living in this new development.

Take a slow tour through this blooming, bright, moving mural! This stunning home is filled with colorful art, and it was a privilege to paint an equally colorful mural! I pulled colors from the home's decor, and went with a variety of flowers and leaves to fill the space. These shapes are a culmination of floral studies and doodles over the years, so it was fun to pull together several bits of my process and style for this epic piece! It's nearly impossible to convey the scale of these walls, but to get a sense, the stairwell is 12' high and the fireplace ceiling is 16' high! Lots of time on ladders and scaffolding to make this beauty come together. What questions do you have? I learned a lot on this project, and would love to share!

Got to assist on this very cool @creative_lou mural! Boy, it's been a few years since I've seen a wall this textured! Spicy, we'll call it! And the best thing you can do, is take a breath, and go slow. Swirl-swirl-pat-pat-pat, load brush, repeat!

Throwback to 2022! A nearly-complete mural for @barre3ballard I wanted this stretch of hallway to give people something new to absorb with every class. I still peep something after class and think, "yeah, I'm gonna take that with me today."
Kim and Katie have been such great support over the years, and I love watching their business grow! Now they're preparing to open a third studio to host more classes, and I'm so excited for them!

Fences went up this week, and demolition of the Ballard Collective building, along with 4 other buildings along NW Market Street, will start soon.
It's a good time to share the time I painted the Ballard Collective sign on the back of the old Ballard Blossom sign, and it became the branding for all of our materials. Because the collective included a variety of small businesses: wellness, massage, sewists, artists, community gatherings, music, yoga, and clothes shopping, I wanted to create a look that would incorporate the spirit of each endeavor. To me, that meant bright colors, a little mess, a little chaos, a lot of interaction and collaboration.
I don't advertise my sign painting, but I do it for cool people and cool businesses. 😉 Reach out if you want your logo or phone number, or any other graphics or images painted! I'm your gal!
The end of the building is just the beginning of a new chapter. Be sure to snap photos of those amazing murals around the building before the bulldozers arrive!

I turned 48 over the weekend! 🥳 I usually do a birthday post, but wasn't sure what to say this year. Do I impart wisdom? Share some hope? Things that brought me joy? Or just rage? 🤷♀️
Let's just go with: I'm glad to still be here. I'm grateful for friends, family, community, and humanity. Thanks to you all for continuing to show up. I'm doing my best to do the same, just maybe a little softer, slower, and more mindfully.

This came together with an invitation to play. @bradytheblack and @aaron_asis invited over 40 artists to show up, offering us space and time to do whatever we wanted. No kickoff meetings, no project briefs or rules. I haven't worked that way before--it's ALL been client work. So to have the opportunity to make mistakes, do something weird that maybe nobody will like, let the fuck ups just be there, it was a new experience. And one that I really needed.
Everyone came in when they could, no discussion of cohesiveness or interaction, yet everything worked together. @the_firestone_project has been such a balm, and so desperately needed by artists and the community. Let's do more of this, please. Empty buildings suck the life out of a neighborhood. Let's fill them with art.

I've taken a lot of lessons from this year, mostly in the Trunchbull ways. Though I wish I'd been able to learn in the Miss Honey ways, those lessons and growth are still valuable.*
I thought it would be a more positive way to look at the new year by doing a More/Less list like @juliarothman does each year. This was a great exercise in contemplating what I want to put energy toward. They aren't measurable goals with pressure of performance and outcome. I need less of that! But a softer way of allowing in what I want, and keeping out what I don't. For the record, I had plenty from the MORE category this year, and it made me more capable!
Cheers to more of MORE and less of LESS.
