i felt it yesterday
i think
the crisp air
despair
melting
just enough
one degree of warmth
that felt like change
you were there
always are
in my mornings
with your mess of hair
soft muse
sunrise
and you
(sunrise is you)
something in me
didn’t resist for once
my longing
didn’t hurt
just presence
held
like a breath
the moment before it leaves
i refuse to exhale
blood rush
the sweet threat of suffocation
in the in-between
cold dark winter
dew-kissed spring
i just stood there
in that almost-warm
and let it own me
maybe that’s hope
not loud
not certain
just
a slight shift
in temperature
barely there
but enough
for something in me
in us
to believe
again

Reflection - “end of me, beginning of You”
I don’t know what it feels like to hang on a cross or to die for mankind. I don’t know what it means to be perfect, or to love without limit. I am human, fragile, inconsistent, unfinished, with only a faint trace of something divine buried somewhere deep within me.
But I do know what it feels like to fall. To fall again, and again, and again. Until my strength, I once trusted, is no longer there. Until whatever human will… that carried me before — is gone. And in that moment, when there is nothing left of me to rely on, something else remains. Not my will. Not my power. But something beyond me—something I cannot fully explain.
In this, I find myself closest to Christ. Not in His perfection, but in His breaking. In the unbearable weight. In the moment where continuing is no longer a choice born from strength, but from surrender. And it is there, at the very end of myself, where I begin to understand what it means to be carried… without judgment.
— I painted this for a group show for Holy Week and stations of the cross. My prompt was “the third time Jesus fell.” Here’s my take.

the single light

of my swallowed days
luminous you
so bright
by simply being
it ruins me
your light seeps into my mouth
spilling through my teeth
forming a smile
that hurts to wear
pleasure meet pain
i shiver
at the thought of you
even now
always
I still remember when
since the day we met
I have been out breath
