Bleak — A Study in Greyscale Portraiture
I abandoned color the way a cathedral abandons noise
not because it isn’t beautiful but because it isn’t true enough Plato suggested that color was simply a trick of the light that only in the absence of color can we see the world in its true form the skeleton beneath the costume the geometry beneath the flesh greyscale is my way of honoring that philosophy a stripping away a quiet violence against illusion In black and white there is nowhere to hide no seduction of hue no warmth to soften grief no saturation to romanticize pain only light only shadow only the architecture of the human soul pressed against the surface like a fossil every portrait becomes an excavation site every face a cave wall and every highlight a flicker of firelight revealing what was always there waiting to be seen without the disguise of color greyscale is not absence
It is confession
The month in review not a bad way to end the season 😌 so blessed for all the amazing friends and all the love and support we made it through winter can’t wait to see all our flowers bloom this spring this city warms my cold black heart 🖤-Bleak
She doesn’t look at you
she looks through what you think you are
past the mask
past the myth
past the version you rehearsed in the mirror
and leaves you standing there
Uncomfortable
