Making anything is a group effort, and we have the best team on CHEF'S TABLE. I had the great pleasure of five brand new key collaborations making our episode about
@evanfunke that I want to highlight.
First was
@samdavis , a ludicrously talented filmmaker (a mainstay on the Oscar circuit for his short doc projects). Sam has an incredibly artistic eye and an old soul, is a calming presence (some of you may know I can run at a higher RPM than usual so this is important in my collaborators), and pairs all that with an unparalleled bullshit detector. This was his first CHEF'S TABLE episode and collaborating with him was a joy. His work on
@raykazehtabchi 's episode about Nite Yun from this season is also spectacular. Thank you Sam (&
@williamdauel ).
Next up is our steadicam operator,
@g2arch . Greg had a really hard job, which was filling the shoes of
@iamjoelmarsh , our usual maestro, and Greg was a treat. I can't wait to get back on the road with him again soon.
This was also the first time I've had the honor and pleasure of working with
@ursandyoyo @suzybeck83 and
@ecarroll01 as producers for something I've directed. Their hard work, incredible attitudes, and ability to deal with me changing everything on a moment's notice meant that we had a wonderful time and were able to make something to be proud of.
Next,
@lgnnelson . I'll write more about Logan in our next season, which we made first, but I'm lucky to be able to partner with such a brilliant composer. Our show is SO hard on composers, and Logan crushed it.
Lastly, this was my first time working with genius editor
@brandon.bdl . I'm certainly not the first director to have my work improved by his brilliant creative brain (h/t
@thisisdavidgelb learned this collaborating with Brandon on Jiro Dreams of Sushi), but Brandon's elegance, natural feel for connections, and precision are elite. I loved every second of arguing with him about every minute of the edit, and hope to get the pleasure of doing it again very soon.
Finally, my gifted wife
@jessjulerather gave her all making the stunning wallpapers that are the backgrounds in our key dish food beauty shots. What a dream to make cool shit together. ❤️
