🏆 Na Forest Lim | 2024 Kresge Artist Fellow Na Forest Lim (they/them) is a South Korean-born, autistic, queer, and trans artist, film director, and photojournalist practicing sustainable poetic living in Waawiyaatanong, Anishinaabe land. They utilize visual storytelling as a form of intentional care by lifting up narratives of communities that have historically not been granted that privilege, such as people of color, immigrants, the disabled, femmes, and queer folx. 🏆 Katy Dresner | 2024 Kresge Artist Fellow Katy Dresner is an award-winning filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist based in Detroit, MI. Since 2014, Dresner has brought their non-linear, experimental storytelling style to a range of narrative and documentary short films, deftly navigating the roles of editor, director, art director, and production designer. Dresner’s film work has screened at numerous festivals and has been broadcast nationwide on PBS. Their new media and video installation art has been exhibited worldwide. School sharpened skills, but Jit craved more. Innovation hummed, tradition meeting asphalt. Michael Jackson moonwalks on concrete, hip-hop fused with old-school soul. This was my Jit, raw, real, Detroit’s stories in every step. Years blurred, stages from gyms to Michael Bivens’ video. Life spun, but the beat pulsed on. Sharing this gift, this Jit, was destiny. 🏆 Imani Ma'at AnkhmenRa Amen Taylor | 2024 Kresge Artist Fellow Imani Ma’at AnkhmenRa Amen Taylor, hailing from Norfolk, Virginia, finds her roots deeply embedded in Detroit’s rich legacy of artists, activists, and leaders. As a dancer and drummer, she immerses herself in ancient rhythms, infusing them into her artistry. Through dedicated study of traditional West African drum and dance, African spirituality, and holistic teaching methods, AnkhmenRa Amen Taylor shares these customs with communities and students while creating safe spaces and connecting African American youth to their heritage. As both an educator and artist—as well as the cofounder of the grassroots organization, Flip the Switch 529—she extends these practices globally, fostering cultural unity.
