Today is a very special day for our family. We are honored to accept our 2024 Kresge Fellowship Awards.
I thank Almighty God for blessing my family and I.
We are good people who have made many sacrifices to improve our lives and the lives of others. Our parents instilled great values in us, and now we have the opportunity to pass this love onto our son.
Today, we rejoice and pour water in honor of our ancestors.
We give honor and thanks to OUR ENTIRE VILLAGE whom helped us get here.
Thank You. 💛
This is a blessed life.🙏🏾
This is the Unmasking for today.👁✨🧿
I sit with myself in quiet reflection and think — wow, this is how we got here. Motherhood has unlocked a part of me I never knew existed: a wellspring of power, magic, and limitless potential. Eleven months ago today, I gave birth to the most beautiful extension of my soul. This journey has been the most sacred and fulfilling chapter of my rites of passage — my divine initiation into motherhood.
I accept this assignment with humility and grace, knowing that God’s hand has carefully orchestrated every moment. Each day, I rise with unwavering humility, confidence, gratitude, and courage, fueled by the desire to give my son the ABSOLUTE BEST LIFE POSSIBLE and the most meaningful experiences the raise him into a man of HONOR and NOBILITY.
More than anything, I want him to know the pure, unwavering meaning of love — beginning with the love that radiates from me to him. Every day, I pour into him with grace, trusting that whatever we need, God will provide. We are protected, guided, favored, and empowered — walking this journey side by side, growing, learning, evolving, and becoming… together.
This is a blessed life.🙏🏾

Appreciation Post for Mommy
In this life, it’s essential to acknowledge yourself—your triumphs, your victories, and the journey that shapes you. I’m still processing it all, still honoring what my soul and spirit needed. In the midst of uncertainty and chaos, my son and I accomplished the unthinkable. We traveled across the country, faced the unknown, and returned home—our beautiful sanctuary—with love waiting for us, including our loyal companion, Zulu.
My son, now 10 months old, was incredible on this journey. He was immersed in culture, embraced new experiences with kindness, and adapted with a wisdom beyond his years. Every day, we laughed. We played. We held each other in love. This trip was more than business, more than making power moves—it was a pilgrimage of healing. A moment to reconnect with the land, to honor our ancestors, and to release a part of my father’s spirit into the ocean, where his essence can flow freely.
This journey was our renewal. It was a sacred shedding of all that no longer served us, a bold step into our divine destiny. My son and I are walking forward together—elevated, transformed, and aligned with our highest selves. The stagnation is gone. The energy has shifted.
I won’t lie—there’s an undeniable power within me now. I feel it. I embrace it. Together, my son and I are a force, vibrating on a frequency where only purity, love, and divine intention can reside. We are stepping into something greater. And we are ready.
The POWER of MANIFESTATION is REAL…💫
This is a blessed life.🙏🏾

Legacy lives through the next generation.
This was more than a performance—it was a full circle moment rooted in culture, community, and ancestral continuation. Years ago, seeds were planted in this very space through African drum, dance, storytelling, and the unapologetic celebration of African diasporic culture. To now witness DSA Sankofa Children of the Drum return to that same space, carrying the rhythm forward with power, discipline, excellence, and joy, was deeply emotional and profoundly affirming.
Our youth are not simply learning choreography.
They are inheriting legacy.
They are becoming cultural custodians.
They are learning that the drum is more than sound—it is memory, healing, resistance, celebration, and connection.
To see our students perform with such passion and spirit reminded us that when young people are connected to culture, they stand taller, move with purpose, and begin to understand the greatness already living inside of them.
A special thank you to @iamalanamichelle for creating space for our students to perform, shine their light, and continue the legacy of this work through her own beautiful vision and leadership. Opportunities like these matter deeply, and we are grateful for the love, intention, and care poured into cultivating spaces where our youth can be seen, celebrated, and empowered. Shout out to sophomore student Arthur Adams for creating such a phenomenal peace that has brought joy and vibration to so many audiences.
This is why we do the work.
For the children.
For the ancestors.
For the future.
And we are only getting started.

Hard love. Sacred ministry. Unshakable dedication. I’m #PROUD of these babies. To see them grow, evolve, and become greater.
These images are a reminder that, at the end of the day, no matter what we endure, no matter our differences, no matter the challenges placed before us—this work matters. Deeply. Profoundly. It carries the power to transform, to heal, to evolve, and to change lives.
Even when the children feel I am too hard on them, every push, every lesson, every standard is rooted in something greater than the present moment. It is because I see beyond where they are now. I see beyond their doubts, beyond their fears, beyond even what they currently believe is possible for themselves. I see the greatness waiting to be awakened. I see how this art form can save, shape, and elevate their lives to heights they may not yet imagine.
So I will continue to push. I will continue to challenge. I will continue to love.
Even when they do not yet understand the pressure, I will stand firm in the purpose. Because real love is not always soft—it is intentional. It is disciplined. It is visionary.
I will continue connecting them to resources, opportunities, and experiences that can radically transform their futures, because this work is not just what I do—it is part of my calling. I know the profound impact this path has had on my own life. African Dance found me, shaped me, healed me, and became one of the most unexpected and beautiful blessings I have ever received—something I didn’t even know I needed until it changed me.
So every morning, I rise counting my blessings for this journey, for this calling, and for the opportunity to pour back into the next generation.
To every burnt-out teacher, every weary mentor, every soul pouring from an overflowing yet exhausted cup—may you remember: your work is sacred. Your labor is not in vain. The seeds you plant today may bloom in ways you may not witness immediately, but they will bloom.
Keep going.
Because the work you are doing is deeper than instruction—it is legacy. #AfricanDance #BlackExcellence #YouthEmpowerment #TeacherLife LegacyInMotion
There’s a fire in my chest that refuses to whisper—it speaks in drums, in footsteps, in the breath of every child waiting to be seen.
Yesterday, I stood before the community in conversation with Madam Mayor Mary Sheffield, planting seeds that have lived in my spirit long before words could hold them. Seeds for Detroit’s youth. Seeds for pathways rooted in culture—where music, dance, storytelling, poetry, and visual arts are not electives, but lifelines.
I spoke from a place that was both weary and unwavering.
Because the truth is… I carry the weight of being a full-time educator, a healer in motion, a vessel pouring into others while still restoring myself. I have asked, in quiet moments and loud ones too:
Where are the resources?
Where are the aligned hands?
Who is ready to build at the level this vision demands?
And yet—despite the questions—there is something greater moving.
I see it.
I feel it.
Opportunities are already opening for our youth to travel, to study under master artists, to return home not just inspired—but transformed, equipped to teach, to lead, to reshape the culture around them. To know African cultural arts not as something distant—but as something that belongs to them.
This is bigger than a program.
This is reclamation.
This is legacy in motion.
And I refuse to believe I am meant to carry it alone.
I know there are people—divinely positioned—who will pour into this vision, who will invest, who will say yes without hesitation. I’m calling them in. I’m walking toward them. I’m moving as if the doors are already open… because I’ve seen them crack.
Even in that room, support found me. Conversations aligned. Energy met me where my faith already stood.
So no, I don’t have every piece yet.
But I have movement.
I have confirmation.
I have God.
And that is more than enough to begin.
Detroit… we are building something powerful.
And it’s already unfolding. ✨#askandyoushallreceive
Imani… a sacred whisper to self—
Remember…
you have always been that woman.
Before the mirrors,
before the applause,
before the world tried to name you—
you were already whole.
Beauty resting softly on your skin,
delicacy woven through your touch,
purity flowing like quiet water within your spirit.
Humble… yet heaven-kissed.
Joyful… like a sunrise that answers to no one.
It is not something you strive for—
it is something you are.
An aura that speaks before words,
a presence that shifts rooms without trying,
a light that does not ask for permission to shine.
So when the noise rises,
when the weight of the world leans heavy—
return to yourself.
Stand in your softness.
Walk in your power.
Bloom in your truth.
Because you have never been becoming…
you have always been.

SupaSTAR ✨ + SupaMAMA 🌍💫
We’re remembering—deep in our bones, beyond the noise—
that we are both.
A woman who shines on stages…
and a mother who builds sacred worlds in the quiet.
A force that creates, performs, transforms—
and nurtures life with the same divine hands.
Our power is not in choosing one…
it’s in becoming both, fully.
My son—our heart walking outside of me—
our shield, our joy, our little celestial partner…
sent from realms beyond sight
to journey beside us in this lifetime.
We are learning each other.
Growing each other.
Becoming… together.
And in the midst of it all—
we still create.
we still shine.
we still dress the part of the life we’re calling in.
Because motherhood didn’t take us away from ourselves…
it expanded us into a greater version of who we already are.
We are art.
We are presence.
We are protection.
We are legacy in motion.
A SupaSTAR.
A SupaMAMA.
And that balance… is our magic. ✨
And let it be known—
my son was the best date ever 💫
