As I was working on this installation remembering lanyards and my grandmother’s living room, I noticed that a robin built a nest and laid eggs inside of a previous installation with faux flowers in my garden. I was already thinking about the blending of the real and hyperreal, memories, art imitating life and how much of our lives are reacting to art that is embedded in our collective consciousness while making this piece. As I got a little closer to the nest I could see the robin had incorporated bits of plastic for strength, and how perfectly this bird’s material selection and placement mirrored what I had been thinking about.
The installation includes site specific hand-crafted macrame hangings, found objects, real and faux flora, microwaves, leaded crystal and servicewear (2 from defunct countries), chicken eggs from my sisters’ hens, and in collaboration with casa de la crema; jello molded eggs with spam and 24k gold.

Opening April 25, the exhibition brings together artists across Detroit and beyond in a shared
exploration of transformation, material, and world-building. I’ll be sharing new installation work
