Fig & Olive is a short film adapted from short story written by Kresge Fellow Beenish Ahmed. It tells the story of Maysoon, a 2nd generation Syrian American as she juggles the complexities of family life and tradition with her career and personal ambitions.
Having a 3-ish min limitation, it was impossible to dramatize the 30pg story in its entirety, so we decided on one chapter. Almost any chapter in the story would have made for a great scene, but this chapter was sort of the collision of all of the situations contributing to Maysoon’s plight.
I had a lot of fun writing and directing this piece. Many thanks to the cast and crew who were amazing collaborators!

I had a ball running the @freepmarathon this weekend! My first half marathon. 10 years ago, I injured myself training for this event (trying to train for speed🤦🏽♂️) and it took a few years before I was comfortable running again. This time I just enjoyed the journey and it was beautiful.
