This feels incredibly beyond over-due for sharing, but I don’t post very often these days and it took me a long time to find the right words to express how grateful and honored I am to have been recognized a 2024 Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellow. This fellowship has been and continues to be a truly life changing and affirming whirlwind. Being an artist and pursuing a career as a filmmaker is a blessing and a privilege that I don’t take lightly. But I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard. Over the years I’ve struggled with crushing self-doubt, questioning whether I was good enough and if I worked hard enough to walk this path. Quieting the overly self-critical parts of myself is no small feat, but the overwhelming kindness, positivity, and support I’ve received as a fellow has been a huge leap towards that goal. The work that KAID does and the opportunities and resources they provide to Detroit creatives like myself are exceptional and second to none. Tonight is the premiere of the Spotlight Detroit Film series, which features a short film about my creative practice alongside a collection of films showcasing the artwork and talents of my fellow Kresge Arts in Detroit cohort. I’m so grateful to be in community with this inspiring group of individuals. And I’m filled with an abundance of joy and love for their artistry and brilliance. Tune in tonight to experience a glimpse of it for yourself and for the rare chance to see me in front of the camera <3 Special shoutout to the G.O.A.T.s @extradecent for bringing my film to life and @marshall.applewhite for creating the original score! Thank you @kresgeartsdetroit !! Spotlight Detroit World Premiere: Watch live on Detroit PBS (channel 56.1) or online: detroitpbs.org/live-tv/

Learn. Practice. Connect. The Beyond the Line Workshop was a great day of learning and doing. Our participants were able to learn and implement from our amazing workshop instructors who are experts in art direction, makeup, and lighting. Watching all of the learnings come together was a highlight amongst our participants as they got to see their work in action. We can’t wait to see how they implement their learnings in their upcoming projects. Special thank you to our instructors Katy Dresner, Jay Orellana, Thad Alcoseba Sabolboro, and orchestrator Paige Wood! We also thank our host for the beautiful space, Cadieux Stage! #DNA #IntrotoFilmmaking #filmmakingworkshop #DNAWorkshop #DetroitFilmmakers #BIPOCFilmmakers #DetroitBIPOC #filmmaking #indiefilmmaking #filmmakers #filmmakersindetroit #workshops #filmmakingworkshop #bipocfilmmakers #michiganfilm #film #media #detroit #storytellers #blackfilmmakers #filmmakersofcolor
