Thank you @bigearsfestival for having RESPIRA. Thank you everyone who came to see us. Thank you great people at The Black Box who were extremely helpful with our complex set-up that would normally take twice as long.
It was deeply meaningful for us to be able to represent our work at this festival. Butoh is a Japanese avant-garde dance form that emerged in post–World War II Japan, characterized by slow, controlled movements, extreme physical states, and a focus on exploring the subconscious, taboo, and transformation. Rather than formal technique, it emphasizes internal experience—often using distortion, stillness, or grotesque imagery—to reveal psychological and existential depth. With RESPIRA, we aim to take this now-authentic dance form a step further, incorporating our current feelings, emotions, questions, and desires, and expressing them through movement with light and sound.
Lastly and most of all, I am deeply grateful to my cohorts Azumi and Waldo. How we can dream together and realize those dreams together is such a meaningful experience. Thank you guys!

VIVA LA YOKO
Thank you LA Times for this thorough article. It’s a tremendous honor to present the concert “Yoko Only” and the musical I’m creating with my partner Glenn Kaino as part of Yoko Ono’s exhibition Music of the Mind at The Broad.
“Yoko Only” is an evening celebrating Yoko’s music. Music was the first thing on Yoko’s mind when she was a child. Through music, I got to meet her, and working with her opened my third eye. I’m deeply grateful to my fellow musicians for coming together to create this show with me.
Yo La Tengo, Nels Cline and I will be the house band. Guest performers are Sleater-Kinney, Sylvan Esso, Dave Harrington, Tune-Yards, Rufus Wainwright, Emi Helfrich, Theo Bleckmann, Finom, Satomi Matsuzaki, Maggie Parkins, and Patrick Shiroishi.
“I Am Yoko” is a multimedia theater piece I’m creating with Glenn Kaino. We have spent years conceiving this project, and I’m overwhelmed to think it will finally be performed this fall. (Workshop) Performers will be announced soon.
Thank you so much to Edward Patuto and Darin Gray at The Broad for trusting me and giving me immeasurable support in creating these events. And thank you Sarah Loyer — a true visionary — for bringing this extraordinary exhibition to Los Angeles for the first time.
It’s been a lot of grinding, but also a great deal of excitement.
-I also have a handful of shows coming up over the next few weeks in the city. They are all different performances — new patches, new sets, new music. Please come say hi!

Some websites ask me if I am a robot. In order to answer, I have to check the box that says “I am not a robot”. Does this feel a little weird to you? It does to me.
What if, in order to prove that I’m not a robot, the box said “I feel joy”. To prove that I’m a human. It feels like joy is the gift for mortals.
Samer is a sound healer. He uses tones of gongs, bells and other sound makers to make you feel the vibrations which takes you to a deep state of quiet joy. I’m honored to take a part of this sound healing meditation experimental audio exploration.

I’ve been so in love with Kalia’s music, her sonic sensibility. Very excited to open for her at @lprnyc on June 10th. The last time we were on the same bill was at @bigearsfestival 2025. She made my ears filled with joy. Hope to see you🤍

Happy vernal equinox—the first day of spring, and the wedding anniversary of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
On this auspicious day, one of my favorite humans has released their first album, Rhythm of RTA.
This beautiful mantra is sung by my sister-in-law @akikinoshita.rta , married to my brother @nunchaki , who recorded and mixed the album. RTA is a Vedic principle of cosmic and moral order—governing nature, time, and human conduct.
The recording took place in Kumano. We all found this place around the same time and fell in love with it—ancient trees, quiet power, something deeply felt.
I remember when Aki began learning mantra in India. She already sounded as if she had been chanting for a hundred years. That was nearly 20 years ago.
I’m deeply moved to see this album come into the world. I hope you’ll listen🙏🏽
The cover art is by her late father, @hirokikatayamaartworks , whose drawings were only recently discovered. This piece is titled Soul.
