Glenn Kaino Studio

Known as a digital pioneer, Glenn Kaino will use just about any medium to make a point and that now includes virtual reality. It’s used in his new exhibition “Aki’s Market,” which covers his family history. @michellemiller29 visited @gkstudio at his California studio.

Cleaning up and came across this picture that I was trying to find for several months of @ulyssesjenkinsothervisions Ulysses Jenkins was one of my first friends/mentors/collaborators back in the day, this is at my undergraduate final show. Shortly after this time we made a group called Cyberethics with Betty Lee - He had the original community studio where we would gather, play music and be in community. He showed us youngins how it was done. I met Mark B there, Kira, and many many more. He created a welcoming space in an unwelcoming world. He took me to Vermont for the first time to see his band play at the old Onyx cafe and embodied generosity and fellowship. RIP brother. Thank you for the inspiration and teachings

We’re starting a new chapter for the studio, building from the momentum of the past few years, learning from the challenges and failures as much as from the wins and successes. We have a home now for Visibility and some exciting new plans to share soon. But for now, just enjoying the openness that comes before the chaos. I remember the first day we all rode through our current space and I could not have predicted all the art, film and stories that would pass by those doors, I’m looking forward to seeing what the new studio brings. Thanks to every one who came by the old shop and helped make it the magical place it was, and please get ready to come by the new shop soon.

LFG. Congrats to Ryan Coogler on his big win today and to all the Sinners team. I’ve been so inspired by Ryan and have learned so much from watching (and reading) his films and seeing how he moves in his artistic space. His grace, care and intention are as high quality as his writing and directing. And thank you for that dance scene that was so great it made me angry. Sinners is the people’s champ!
