TODAY: Chris Addison (The Thick of It, Mock the Week) joins Ensemble 360 to bring his infectious enthusiasm for classical music to Doncaster. Telling the story of Europe from the courts of 17th century Italy, through the political and social revolutions of 18th and 19th century Europe, to the weird and wonderful sounds conjured by today’s contemporary composers, Chris takes us on a journey through the rich, vibrant – and sometimes bizarre – history of classical chamber music. Discover how a bassoonist beat up Bach, Mozart’s passion for the newly-invented clarinet (and for crude poetry), Beethoven’s embattled relationship with his failing hearing and the Emperor of France, and how Schoenberg tore up the musical rule book in a continent ravaged by war. In anticipation of the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival 2026, we are thrilled to welcome some of the world’s finest musicians and stellar guest artists involved as we invite you to #MeetTheMusicians. Meet our resident ensemble, Ensemble 360. Ensemble 360 has gained an enviable reputation across the UK for the quality and integrity of their performances. Formed in 2005, musicians of international standing came together to take up residency in South Yorkshire with Music in the Round, establishing a versatile group comprising string players, wind players and a pianist. The Ensemble 360 musicians share a passion for the music which radiates through each performance. Their enthusiasm, drive and musicality captivate audiences both through the quality of their playing and their engaging spoken introductions. Due to the flexible nature of the group’s line-up the repertoire possibilities are enormous; anything from baroque duos, through classical quartets to new commissions.
