Join us at Glyndebourne on Sun 3 May for the festival’s opening classical event - an afternoon that brings together brilliance across generations.    Two acclaimed quartets, renowned for their authentic period style, each perform a defining work by one of the twin founders of the genre, Haydn and Mozart, before combining forces, and uniting past, present and future, in the teenage Mendelssohn’s miraculously mature yet evergreen Octet   Book at brightonfestival.org

The Consone Quartet Returns to Wigmore Hall This Spring and Summer Maiastra is delighted to spotlight the return of the exceptional Consone Quartet to Wigmore Hall for two highly anticipated concerts on 27 April and 28 June. Renowned for their vibrant, historically informed performances on period instruments, the Consone Quartet continues to captivate audiences with interpretations that are both deeply considered and strikingly fresh. We are especially proud to celebrate the connection between the Consone Quartet and the Maiastra community: violinist Agata Daraskaite and violist Elitsa Bogdanova are both Maiastra alumni. Between them, Elitsa and Agata have participated in seven Maiastra courses between 2013 and 2019. In March last year, they both returned to perform in Maiastra’s centenary concert, which coincided with what would have been Aidan Woodcock’s 100th birthday, the founder of the charity. This February in The Strad Recommends “These players have a seemingly unerring instinct for tempo, pace and attitude in this music, responding and reacting to its myriad moods, switches of dynamic and twinges of dissonance…” Many many thanks to @the_strad_ and David Threasher for reviewing and recommending our latest release of Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn’s quartets. Please have a listen to the full album, linked in our bio!

Lithuanian-Polish violinist Agata Daraškaitė's (@agatadaraskaite ) love for the sound worlds created by gut strings led to the creation of the @consonequartet , the first period-instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists. In our latest Artist Spotlight, she talks about what's so special about using gut strings for the classical and romantic repertoire, her idea of perfect happiness, and lots more!
