The friendship between composer Morton Feldman and playwright Samuel Beckett inspired some of the 20th century’s most extraordinary art. This evening of music and theatre features Beckett’s Rockaby and the duo’s remarkable collaboration Words & Music, where Feldman’s taut score becomes part of the drama itself.

Music inspired by the breathtaking Northern landscape. In two beautiful churches on the Chatsworth Estate, violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen joins soprano Claire Booth and pianist Tim Horton for music by Edvard Grieg and Percy Grainger, alongside the Music in the Round co-commission Speak of the North. The day also includes guided walks, poetry and talks.

A panel of music and film experts explores Jean Cocteau’s masterpiece that inspired Francis Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine. Claire Booth and guests discuss celebrated screen adaptations by directors including Ingmar Bergman, alongside a screening of The Human Voice starring Tilda Swinton.

As birdsong fills the trees of Sheffield General Cemetery, enjoy an atmospheric dawn concert for flute and piano, from Baroque nightingales to Olivier Messiaen’s vivid bird calls. Afterwards, join Tom McKinney for a guided bird walk through the cemetery.
