🎬 May Screenings Are Here
What does it mean to show up, speak out, and stand your ground in today’s Kenya?
This month, The Kenyan Film Night brings together four powerful short films from Docubox’s Follow the Leader project @docubox_eadff — each exploring civic participation through deeply personal stories of courage, resistance, and reflection.
From the political strategy in Chess Not Checkers, to the poetic defiance of What Shall I Wear to My Funeral, these films capture the realities of navigating power, identity, and justice.
With Rocky’s Triumph and The Last Mango Tree, the anthology continues to highlight the resilience of everyday people standing their ground in the face of systemic challenges.
Join us for an evening of bold storytelling and meaningful conversation.

Kalasha is always a pulse check for the Kenyan film and TV industry.
A moment to take stock of where our stories are, what’s shifting, and where the gaps still are.
This week, we’re at Kalasha with the team, speaking with filmmakers about our grants and labs, meeting potential partners, and having direct conversations about how documentary work is getting made and supported in the region.
It’s also been good to see a number of Docubox-supported films and creatives reflected across this year’s nominations. A quiet marker of the work and where it continues to show up.
If you’re at Kalasha this week:
– Curious about how we support independent documentary filmmakers
– Interested in partnerships around impact, production, or distribution
– Or just want to understand what’s emerging from East Africa’s documentary space
Come find us at the Docubox booth ✨✨

At KameraKwanza, we believe African documentaries deserve more than solitary screens, they deserve to be seen together, debated, and felt as a community.
After screening Dahomey at our latest edition, we asked our audience what keeps them coming back and why others should join.
Watch their answers, and you’ll understand why @goetheinstitut_nairobi and @mydocubox built this platform.
Because stories are more powerful when they are shared. 🌍🎙️
