Harlem River Houses received the 2026 Elev8 Design Awards Silver in the Multifamily category! The rehabilitation of the 9-acre Harlem River Houses was recognized for its comprehensive modernization and sustainability upgrades, as well as its careful preservation of character-defining features—from the historic statuary and murals to the concrete masonry façade. “An impressive preservation effort that carefully balances landmark restoration with sustainability upgrades. It demonstrates how historic public housing can be modernized without losing its identity,” noted the jury. “The design team did a beautiful job crafting a feeling of home in these historic structures.” See the full list of winners and read more on Harlem River Houses through the link in our bio. 📸 by @_as__ap_ With @settlementhousing , @nychagram , @lmdevpartners , @westharlemgroup , @brightpowerinc , @inglese_ae , @airtekenvcorp , @rand_dpc , @nv5_inc , @unitedspinal , @jbc_architectural_conservators , JM Zoning, and Higgins Quasebarth.

Exciting news, Fulton Community Reentry Center won the @ulinewyork 2026 Award for Excellence in Adaptive Reuse! Partner Darby Curtis accepted the honor at the 10th Annual ULI Awards Gala Dinner, alongside the project team. The Fulton Center was selected for defining a new reentry housing model, turning a former minimum-security prison into an innovative, community-centered hub serving those impacted by the criminal justice system. Originally built as a Church House in 1907, this supportive residential facility incorporates trauma-informed design principles to provide a welcoming, safe environment for individuals over forty who are returning home from long-term incarceration. The Center offers 140 transitional reentry housing beds, as well as spaces to share meals, foster community, and hold classes, training sessions, and support groups. Captured through the lens of photographer Alexander Severin (@_as__ap_ ), the restoration of Harlem River Houses represented a unique opportunity to document the modernization of this historic project alongside existing photos taken shortly after its 1937 opening.  One of the first federally funded housing projects, Harlem River Houses’ ambitious design offered a benchmark for high-quality affordable housing. Led by @settlementhousing and C+GA and completed in 2025, an extensive renovation modernized the complex while retaining and restoring its historic fabric. Pictured above in both 2025 and 1940, the historic statuary by sculptor Heinz Warneke positioned near key entrances represents the development’s commitment to public art. Each sculpture underwent comprehensive restoration by @jbc_architectural_conservators after decades of disrepair.  “We established a dialog with the older images – recreating and interpreting them to show the evolution of the complex,” said Alexander. C+GA team members—Matt Melody, Mitch Hartig, Nai Hua Chen, and Ryan Esparza—joined @helpusa ’s 4th Annual Art of Resilience Benefit for an inspiring evening celebrating the role of creativity in healing and recovery.   The event featured a gallery exhibit of artwork created by New Yorkers experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, and a community artmaking experience led by acclaimed multidisciplinary artist @mickalenethomas . C+GA is honored to serve as architect for 1024 Fulton Street in Clinton Hill, a neighborhood many of our staff call home. The mixed-use building will bring 125 permanently affordable homes together with an intergenerational community center and a neighborhood health clinic. The community center will be the new home of @fortgreenecouncil , a neighborhood anchor for over 50 years serving older adults, children, and families. @onebrooklynhealth will provide on-site clinical services.   Designing to Passive House standards prioritizes long-term performance, comfort, and resilience. A high-performance envelope, calibrated window proportions, and articulated facades reduce energy demand while maximizing daylight and livability, reinforcing the connection between sustainability and housing equity.   Composed as a series of distinct brick volumes, subtle tonal shifts respond to the rhythm of Fulton Street, while a two-story glazed community base establishes a strong civic presence at grade. Cascading terraces step down toward Crispus Attucks Playground to the east, extending open space upward and engaging both the street and the park.   The project is led by a 100% nonprofit development team (@fifthavenuecommittee , @bedstuyrestoration , and @onebrooklynhealth ) with Henge Development and Apex Building Group serving as development and construction partners.   “At 1024 Fulton, our goal is to translate community priorities into built form: housing, health, and community woven together,” said Tamar Kisilevitz, Partner at C+GA.   Click the link in our bio to read the full press release.   Rendering by @lemonsbucket   #CPlusGA #NYCArchitecture

H&dM will lead the design of Hudson Mosaic, a new affordable housing project in Manhattan’s Hudson Square neighborhood. The project represents a bold vision for equitable and sustainable urban living — an all-electric, Passive House development with a sizeable community center at its base. At once iconic and responsive, the project weaves residential and public programs into a cohesive architectural statement, grounded in brick materiality, public art, and a shared civic identity. Beyond being the first City-led development that co-locates affordable housing with an NYC Parks recreation center, this projector showcases how publicly subsidized housing can be planned and designed at the highest level. As lead design consultants, Herzog & de Meuron will partner with Curtis & Ginsberg, who will serve as executive architects and bring their expertise in housing. The development of Hudson Mosaic will continue to be led by our New York studio. @cplusga @camberpropertygroup @sus_org @essence.development #herzogdemeuron #hdm_694 #hudsonsquare #newyork #architecture

Partner Matt Melody joined @helpusa ’s 3rd Annual Winter Walk! Hundreds gathered in Central Park to spotlight the urgent need for affordable housing in NYC—a testament to what we can achieve when our community unites for change.   “There are dozens of reasons why people become homeless, but just one reason they remain homeless, because there’s no reasonable housing they can afford” said Dan Lehman, President and CEO of HELP USA.   Consider donating to help provide housing, services, and stability for individuals and families experiencing homelessness through the link in our bio.   #HELPUSA #CPlusGA #AffordableHousing #WinterWalkNYC
