Every day, nonprofit human services workers help New Yorkers access shelter, prevent eviction, support families, care for veterans, and move into permanent housing.
These are the people working across shelters, supportive housing, homelessness prevention, outreach, and family services to help New Yorkers build stability and move forward.
Yet nonprofit human services workers continue to earn significantly less than City employees doing comparable work.
We’re calling on @nycmayor and @nyccouncil to pass Int 0452 and advance #JustPay for the human services workforce.
To all the mothers and mother figures in our community, Happy Mother’s Day from HELP USA.
At WestHELP Family Shelter, we celebrated with flowers, gifts, and time together in recognition of the strength, resilience, and love mothers show their children every day while working toward brighter futures for their families.
HELP USA celebrated participants in its CASAC and CRPA training programs, recognizing the trainees, staff, and partners helping strengthen peer-led recovery and harm reduction services across HELP USA’s Wards Island shelters.
Since the expansion of harm reduction services, average monthly overdoses across the shelters have declined from 5.67 to 0.75 per month.
Peer CRPAs have also completed 105 intakes of high-risk clients into the frontline harm reduction program.
Thank you to the @forefdn , @exponentsnyc , and @nycdhs for supporting this important work.

At HELP Home Simpson, supportive housing means more than having a place to live. It means having independence, support, and the opportunity to move forward.
For Robert, moving into his own apartment meant having a place to call home while rebuilding relationships with his children and grandchildren.
“It’s a blessing,” he shared. “I got my own key now. I can cook my own food and come and go as I please.”
That sense of stability is what Fallon Torres, Director at HELP Home Simpson, and her team work to create every day.
“We try our best to make residents feel at home and provide hope and an opportunity for them to thrive,” Fallon said. “Any small step should be a victory.”

Robert recently moved into HELP ONE Building C, a newly built space where he can finally settle in and have something of his own.
Having a place to call home changes what daily life looks like, and with staff always available, he has support when he needs it.
It’s a combination that gives him the stability to keep building on the progress he’s made.

In this video, Brendalis talks about her favorite part of her role as Director of Supportive Housing at HELP Woodycrest Apartments.
It’s being part of residents’ journeys, helping them access the support they need and seeing what’s possible when people are given a second chance.
That’s what supportive housing makes possible: stability, support, and the opportunity to move forward.

At HELP ONE, residents and their families came together for a “Sensory Day” in recognition of Autism Awareness Month.
From sand tray play and clay molding to slime making and music, the day offered hands-on ways to explore sensory experiences in a welcoming environment.
Moments like these are part of what supportive housing makes possible, giving families the space to be together, learn, and feel supported.

After everything he’s been through, Aaron describes living at HELP Woodycrest Apartments as “a beautiful thing.”
Developed by HELP Development Corp. with on-site supportive services provided by HELP USA, residents at Woodycrest have a stable place to live and the support to move forward.
“Supportive housing has been great for me. It’s just getting better and better every day that I live here.”

A stable home matters, but ongoing support is what helps people move forward.
At HELP ONE and Park Place, developed by HELP Development Corp. for families in need of affordable and supportive housing, that support is built in from the start.
Kimberly Martinez, an Early Childhood Clinician, supports families as they adjust, work through challenges, and find stability, all while pursuing her MSW.
“Supportive housing is important because when people are transitioning from shelter to independent living, they still need support. When a crisis happens, having someone they can go to for help makes a big difference.”
