A Blank Canvas is a Beige Building with Fluorescent Lights (A Blank Canvas) is a zine publication about Kapo Factory Building, an industrial building built in post-independent Singapore in the 1970s, and home to an ever-changing roster of local brands, businesses, and creative studios. Most of the photos here were taken in 2025 February during our first open building event, Kapo Weekend (KaPoW for short), and shows the diversity of tenancy use in a humble and unspectacular factory building. Living on a temporary lease, the description of Kapo as a second ‘home’ is a disputable one; can one feel at home dwelling at the precipice of rental uncertainty? Can dreams, culture and neighbourliness bloom in this surprising oasis? A small sample of tenants are represented in four pages each, easily detachable from the folder to be read, and thereafter waiting to be reattached, or rehoused on your wall as a poster print.
made by a symphony of people & machine.
